Before Jerome was born, his father was exposed to nuclear radiation. Jerome was born with black skin, which caused distress to his Caucasian parents. Also a mutant, Jerome began to develop ape-like features at age ten, and his parents abandoned him. He soon met Nekra, and they formed Black Spectre, an organization to overthrow the government.
