Issue Summary

Summary/Review by Michael Deeley

Daredevil breaks into various chemical plants for materials to make a new stronger costume. The materials are based on formations in nature. Hellspawn follows Daredevil to meet Eddie Passim. Passim is about to kill Gen. Kenkoy, but his office is empty. DD tries to learn more about the virus Kenkoy made. Daredevil finds clues in the room that suggest Kenkoy fought someone armed with a sai. That's when Hellspawn breaks in. Hellspawn is invisible to Daredevil's radar sense, so DD has to use other methods to track him. Hellspawn ultimately escapes.

One of Kekoy's henchman, a member of the Hand, was importing a shipment of heroin. Venom, now a lethal protector, destroys the shipment and kills the ninja. As the ninja's body dissolves, Venom receives his memories about the "About Face" virus. About Face can alter a person's body according to their wishes. Kenkoy wanted it to keep drug addicts healthy enough to use his "product" for years. Venom wants it to rid himself of his weaknesses to fire and sound.

Meanwhile, Nick Fury puts the cyborg Siege on the trail of the kidnapped John Garrett. Garrett is being tortured by the Snakeroot who want to extract the part of Elektra's essence she left in Garrett's mind. With "About Face", they will implant this dark essence into a new body and create a new Elektra.

At the Bugle, Jameson has settled with the union. Ben Urich goes back to work tomorrow. Sara waits to find more evidence in Urich's apartment that proves Matt Murdock is Daredevil.

This issue has a neat glow in the dark cover. Unlike most gimmick covers, it relates to the story. It demonstrates how DD's radar sense looks, but can't find Hellspawn.

In the early 90's, the Spider-Man villain Venom was becoming an anti-hero, calling himself a "lethal protector". He appeared in mini-series that ran almost as continuously as a monthly series. His brief appearance in this story is undoubtedly a marketing ploy.
