Just listened to episode 5. More great stuff. Rereading 504 was really fun for me hearing the commentary on some of the things. I am in no way suggesting that they are just sticking Batman into the Marvel Universe It is still unmistakeably Daredevil and they are still delving into the characters and world.

You mentioned that the Kingpin is looking a little more pudgy. I feel like this may be a return to old form for the Kingpin where is behind the scenes using others to do his dirty work rather than getting down on the streets doing it himself. He is up in the penthouse giving orders to his super lieutenants. He is the shadowy figure that we so love to have in comics. But to see him is to underestimate him.

I just realized how long this is you don't feel obliged to read in on the air at all.

Reading this I can't help but want to see Black Tarantula and White Tiger ongoing series even though I really enjoy the self contained nature of the Daredevil series. However I do find their stories interesting. You know that they are doing things outside of the Daredevil ongoing. At least before the Hand saga starts. It shows that just because a Hero doesn't have an ongoing series doesn't mean they are not active.

Seeing the ninjas of the Hand after the battle in the streets I for one found interesting, because I have never seen the Hand shown as real people. But in this panel we see them with their heads hung low only one Hand ninja is standing straight and he is holding up one that is supporting himself on his back. One cannot even find the energy to clean the blood from his blade.

Seeing the supporting cast of Daredevil stand on their own and act without Matt is always good to see. Unlike many superheros who's supporting cast just doesn't exist unless the hero is in the room things happen in their lives. They do their jobs even if its illegal. And it is them, not Daredevil with his limitless resources, who find out that Wilson Fisk is still active and ruining their lives.

I've gotta say that Bullseye in Hawkeye's costume looks awesome in this art style.

Connections with the police department are clearly defined in this arc most of the time all we see of the police in Daredevil is the one who wants to bring him in and the one who supports Daredevil completely. Here we are seeing more shades of Grey, but Daredevil is now treating them all as enemies and in doing so he is invalidating the trust that has previously been instilled in him.

For a life long believer in the Justice system Daredevil's idea of a prison seems quite extreme. Shoulder to shoulder cages submerged chest deep in sewage, fed only bread and water, impossible to sleep. Perhaps his stint in prison has him feeling a little vindictive. He had to go through that prison so these people, who are guilty of crimes he considers much worse than his, deserve much worse than he had to endure. Shadowland will be interesting to see if he improves these conditions or builds a prison that neglects human rights even more.

Man that went on for a while and I could probably go on for longer... Oh well time to draw more parallels to Batman.

504 starts with a well dressed man with glasses and suit who brings Daredevil the blueprints for Shadowland. Despite his completely foreign appearance he looks completely at home in a cave. His expression doesn't ever look surprised. He just tells Daredevil how impossible what he asks in and a panel later says it will be done. To me this guy is a total Alfred analog.

Daredevil has his two sidekicks(I don't think they are. The word just fits the analogy.) Black Tarantula(Robin/Nightwing) and White Tiger(Batgirl) who he has guided into becoming heroes in their own right.

I don't even read Batman I just know the general stuff. Typing some of this down seems wrong because the characters themselves are not anything like the characters they are analogs of but this is just an intellectual exercise.

Well that is long.

Probably won't happen until he gets a hit movie. I really hope they do him justice this time. I do like the Iron Man cover. I do think they at least tried to make it say Japan.

The art is great; I love the steampunk feel of this cover. I just really don't like other titles getting "face time" on Daredevil, unless they DO feature DD on every other title when Shadowland rolls around.

Then, I might feel differently. I just don't have the funds to buy every variant cover that shows up.
