Are you sure? I think they first appear in DD#5, even if somewhat more schematic.

Yeah, the explanation of the radar sense is in #5. Aside from that, it's in #8. I guess it depends on how you look at it.

Here's a few other items:

1) Daredevil is the first solo Marvel superhero to premiere in his own comic.

(Spidey premiered in Amazing Fantasy; Iron Man in Tales of Suspense; Thor in Tales to Astonish; Dr. Strange in Strange Tales...etc.)

2) Despite his reputation as the guardian of Hell's Kitchen, Daredevil lived and operated for many years in San Francisco.

3) Daredevil is the first major, mainstream superhero to live with a woman (Black Widow) in a non-married relationship (1972).

4) The inspiration for DD's impairment may have come from the daughter of co-creator Bill Everett, who reportedly was blind.

5) Uncharacteristically for its day, DD had three writers over its first ten issues (Stan Lee, Denny O'Neil and Wally Wood), and 8 pencillers over its first twenty issues (Bill Everett, Steve Ditko [uncredited], Joe Orlando, Wally Wood, Bob Powell, Jack Kirby, John Romita Sr., Gene Colan). That's quite a pedigree.

6) Wally Wood was the creator of the iconic, venerable red costume. Many others over the years have tried tinkering with it or completely changing it, but in the end, the red costume returned. The moral to the story: You can't improve upon perfection.

7) No less than four of DD's girl friends have died: Elektra, Heather Glenn, Glorianna O'Breen and Karen Page. Two others have been tortured: Black Widow and Milla Donovan.

Cool When combining Vol 1 and Vol 2, Daredevil has been steadily publishing (either monthly or bi-monthly) for almost 45 consecutive years, nearing its 500th issue.

9) Despite his reputation as Spidey's definitive artist, John Romita states that his favourite character is Daredevil. Despite his reputation as Marvel's preeminent artist in such genres as horror [Dracula], occult [Dr. Strange] and social commentary [Howard The Duck], Gene Colan states that his favourite character to draw is Daredevil.

10) Daredevil is left handed.

11) Daredevil is blind. (I know that's obvious, but sometimes the obvious is overlooked.)

Nice stuff, but #10 is debatable.

About #1 I assume Captain America doesn't count, since Marvel was still called Timely Comics back then.

Also in regards to #1, the Hulk debuted in his own comic, but maybe he's not regarded as a superhero?

Actually, I think #10 is one of those things that creators have often missed (sort of like #11, by the way Wink), but I believe that the traditional portrayal of the character is as a south paw. I guess you could argue that, like many left-handed people, he's relatively ambidextrous. Suits me better than blaming sloppy continuity.

Nice list, blacktyphoid!

Matt's left handed? Since when? I don't doubt it's true but I'm just surprised that I never knew that.

But in fact he isn't. I thought so too, but I saw several examples of him using his right hand to write.

Another factoid: There was a time DD's Billy-club was equipped with high potency mortar projectiles.

But is there ever a point in the book where he's referred to as left handed?

One modification to add to this point, so that it now reads as follows:

7) No less than four of DD's girl friends have died: Elektra, Heather Glenn, Glorianna O'Breen and Karen Page. Two others have been tortured: Black Widow and Milla Donovan. And one girl friend tortured him: Typhoid Mary Walker.

With his super senses, I'm pretty sure he's ambidextrous.

What's Matt Murdock's middle name? I tried looking it up but couldn't find it.
