First issues are tough to make interesting and to get new readers up to speed.

This issue does both -- and does them really well.

I am really excited about the next issue and I am looking forward to re-reading the issue one more time.

Hey Darediva, did you catch the shout out?

Impressed,
Tom

What a great first issue!

I'll post more detailed thoughts in a few days as part of my review for ComicsBulletin.com, but this feels like a fantastic start to a run that looks like it's going to consciously mark a real departure for the book.

And yes, great to see Alice's letter! Smile

The guy who runs the shop I buy in was almost giddy as he handed over my copy of Daredevil #1. Demanded that I call him when I finish because he wanted to know what I thought. I was pretty giddy myself when I finally called.

This issue gets a big fat A+ as far as I'm concerned.

Excellent explanation of the characters for newbies, excellent placement of where we are now for old-timers. Breathtaking artwork. I haven't had this much fun reading a comic book in a good, long while.

So how many covers did you pick up? I managed to get 4 of the 5, and I've got my shop looking around to try and get that elusive cover for me.

I really enjoyed this issue. For many years, people didn't think DD could have artwork like this (I guess we were spoiled by Maleev/Lark/De La Torre), but it works. Waid manages to "relaunch" DD without getting too bogged down with continuity. The attention to Matt's radar sense was cool to see as well.

Five covers! I only know about four!

I absolutely loved the way Paolo drew the radar sense. Very effective. One of my single favorite moments of the issue was DD covering the flower girl's eyes so that she wouldn't see The Spot making short work of the thug. Depicting the neck break through DD's radar sense was nothing short of genius.

I only got three of the five covers.

My LCS told me they never got the other two, but were expecting them next week. (We'll see.)

I still need the Romita cover and the Neal Adams cover. To me, the regular cover was the best one. The Neal Adams cover was the next best.

I don't want to have to resort to eBay, but I will if I have to. Smile

I got the regular cover and the blank variant because my comic store just threw it in. I wasn't really after any others besides the Adams one, maybe.

If anyone wants the blank variant and can't find it, I have one. We'll trade or something.

I also got a massive poster of the regular cover.

I think Waid paid enough attention to continuity without making it seem like he was ignoring it. They seem to be acknowledging Shadowland's failure by not dwelling on it, but acknowledging what it allegedly did to Matt by saying he's trying to get over what he did.

Perfect.

I love how Matt is really trying hard to live life now. The kissing of the mob boss's wife seemed uncharacteristic, but then I realised it's how Matt was before all the tragedy. He's trying to gain his soul back, and that's cool.

What is the blank variant?

I don't have this one, I don't think.

I was only aware of four seperate covers.

I still need to scan that blank cover into my database, but here's a quick look at it on the Marvel site:

The fight with Spot was intense! I love Matt with the hot dog vendor. "Whoops."

I think Waid's use of the radar is the best I've ever seen. I loved the inventive ways he played with what Matt could do with his heightened senses, too.

Oh, I didn't realise those were available. Are they sold online anywhere? It's a fantastic cover.

Exactly what it sounds like. Smile

It's just a completely blank, white cover image (but still with the DD logo etc.)

So, I am the only one for now who did not like it.
Come on, how long did they have to get this issue ?
Look at DD face ! I don't say it's ugly or wathever. But I really don't like this kind of art.

What about the story ? Well, no trace of the ShadowLand consequences. No one rushing on him about the prisoneers he made.
As for his return, no grace, no wit. He just jump into troubles like a newby. Come on, Avengers let's go kick the Spot's butt !!
LAME !

I've waited long to enjoy DD again. But nothing good since Maleev and Bendis run.

This seems like the way its meant to be eh? Under current of gritty, covered by a layer of swashbuckling superhero awesomeness!

'The Mast' - I thought he kissed the mob bride to give the Spot a chance to try to blindside him (which of course can't be done!)? Baiting him in to get a grip on him? Did no one else see it that way?

Cassecou - did you read DD before Bendis? Did you maybe not realise he was a superhero?
