Another week of new comics. What did you drop some dough on and what was worth it?

Civil War #3 - The main title keeps knocking them down and Frontline keeps sweeping them up. The fight I was waiting for came and in a big way. I didn't expect the last page and made an audible noise when I got to it. A lot of untied threads being looped off in Civil War.

Daily Bugle - This is at worst a promo piece for all of the CW spin-offs and at best a source of fuel for the Internet mill. Not exactly essential reading but at $.50, it's a fun read.

Cable/Deadpool #30 - after a handful of semi-serious to serious issues, this gets back to it's over the top 4th wall goodness with Deadpool narrating and hacking his way throughout the issue. Nice little tease with Deadpool about to spill the identity of the imposter DD only to take Cap's shield to the head as well as a nice little cameo by the Great Lakes Avengers of all people.

Transformers: Stormbringer #1 - Yeah, I'm still a sucker for th TF books. Pretty good issue. JNo crazy slow story with a handful of stupid teenage humans running around to detract from the story (like in the Infiltration arc). This issue also included the Technobots (one of my favorite combiners back in the day) and Jetfire (always cool). Very interested to see where Furman goes with this...oh yeah, Don Figueroa works his magic on the pencils for this run - a huge step up from the subpar Infiltration art.

This week was so much better than last.

Civil War 3

Awesome battle, awesome series, but I still kinda hate it because it's making me hate Iron man and really, really hate Reed Richards. Just wondering was that Matt in this issue or the imposter?

Girls 14

Simply, One of the best books out there,IMO.

Pariah,
I'll be picking mine up on Friday afternoon, can't wait after the cliff hanger last issue. Girls is one of my favourites too, have you read Ultra by the Luna's Bros?

I have indeed read Ultra, it was my first exposure to the Luna brothers work and although, I remember being extremely agitated at the premise when the first issue of Ultra dropped, because I wanted to be the guy who mixed Sex in the City with superheroes first, but I couldn't deny the greatness of their work, and I'm simply enjoying Girls 10x more than I did Ultra.

I've come to the conclusion that Ultra is probably the best comic to give to wives and girlfriends (wags) to introduce them to comics. I could have swore that it was written by a woman from the tone and emotion.
I think so far, I have enjoyed Ultra more, but then again, that may be because it was a tight six issue mini, where Girls is an on going. That said, I am enjoying Girls, though the second arc didn't go anywhere for me. And if I am allowed to say, as with Ultra, some of the girls in it are really hot!

I read a few issues of Girls and quite liked it - it's weird to see such innocent, cartoony art tackling such messed-up subject matter - but I wasn't in on it from the beginning so I'm tempted to go back and pick up the first TPB sometime. Never read Ultra.

Edit - I've actually got a couple of Girls backissues on my latest ebay selling spree, if anyone is interested...

Anyway, this week: Civil War was pretty good if not as great as the last couple of issues - loving the art, and can just about cope with Spidey (and others) being written out-of-character in service of the story. I'm not at all emotionally invested in the character who appears on the last page, so it was a bit of a 'meh' moment for me. I really hope Nick Fury shows up soon - his appearance is bound to shake things up.

Read the Daily Bugle - Civil War thing too - even more disposable than last year's House of M equivalent, but still a decent enough bit of advertising. Although I am a bit disturbed at just how many details about Peter Parker's private life have already been revealed to the public...
