Hi all. Long time no see. I thought you might be interested in seeing this, that arrived today: the IDW Artifact Edition of Frank Miller's Daredevil:

(That's a deluxe HC next to it for scale.)

Did anyone else get one too?

Like the IDW Artist Editions, it reprints original art at the original size - but unlike those, the Artifact editions don't represent complete stories, just an incomplete collection of whatever pages were available (as with the Watchmen book last year).

I've had a quick flick through, but I plan to explore it in depth next week when I'm off work.

Despite not being complete stories, you still get a strong sense of the flow of storytelling from these pages - and there are lots of classic scenes represented here (even if some favourites are inevitably not present).

The reproduction really is amazing - like looking at the originals.

What's always interesting in seeing the art up close like this is all the little details, corrections, white-out techniques etc. that simply aren't visible in the finished printed art.

It's also interesting to chart the evolution of Miller's style throughout this book, from something more traditional and chunky to something far more refined.

Especially towards the end, you can see just how much Janson was contributing to the book as inker:

There's also a fold-out towards the end with a couple of pin-up pieces:

It's a great book that's harmed only by its lack of completeness (a bit like the Watchmen book). Still, getting to see some of this art is better than none at all, and seeing this kind of detail is always amazing. Beautiful stuff.

Dave (if you're still around these parts) many thanks for posting - now that is a thing of beauty. Been on my list for a while now but I've only just caught up with your pics (better late than never).

This has jumped to the top of my want list, and theres a nice place waiting for it next to my Miller / Janson omnibus.

No worries! It's a great book.

Mazz' "Born Again" artist edition is amazing too - they make great companions for each other.

You can get a bit hooked on these big art books - as a big Miller fan, I've got similar volumes for Ronin, DKR and Sin City too.

Yep, have to admit I've got my eye on the Ronin book also. Big fan of all the early Miller stuff.
