This issue rocked.

Once again, Chip Zdarsky had a central theme to this issue -- control -- and explored this theme throughout the issue.

Matt's plot to rescue an imposter Daredevil was great. He keeps talking about how he used to be Daredevil, how he can't be Daredevil anymore. In the end, and as has become clear over the last few issues, the universe won't let him stop being Daredevil. And as was made clear this issue, he can't be just a masked vigilante. He has to be one that is feared. He has to be Daredevil, and now, with Elektra's help, he is going to work to become him once again.

Wilson Fisk's plot was amazingly executed. If there is one thing that he has never been able to tolerate, it's being disrespected. I love his conversation with Wesley early on in this issue. He is happy to be mayor, and nothing more. He tells Wesley, "We're here. We've earned this. The only preparation now is to exist. To recognize this new phase and embrace it. True power." I never said he was a good mayor, but judging by Wesley's smile, this seems to be a positive direction for Fisk and company.

Zdarsky did a masterful job letting the needling Fisk has to endure through the dinner escalate incrementally. I love the self-affirmations Fisk goes through in the washroom. Then Tyrone shows up outside the washroom and says one wrong thing too many. It's a fantastic cliffhanger. Daredevil is, without question, one of the best books on the stands right now.

I'm giving this a perfect score, but I do have one minor nitpick. Maybe two.

1. The way Marco Checchetto drew Matt saving the imposter Daredevil made it unclear to me that he was indeed saved. I needed to look over the page a second time to see that he did indeed grab the guys foot. Then, on the next page, Elektra was so far in the background, it was easy to miss her helping the imposter Daredevil on to the rooftop.

2. I think we need to adhere to Elektra's classic costume that included a belt, or at least a sash she would tie around her waist.

As I said, Zdarsky and Checchetto are on fire! Perfect score! It's been a long time since Daredevil was this good!

It looks as though fisks story will involve him gaining more and more power but losing more and more respect. Thats an interesting position to put the character in and clearly he can’t handle it. It’s interesting that he cares more about his image than his wealth, power or connections. Thats very revealing and before this story i’m not entirely sure i would have been able to guess which was more important to him so i would call this some good character development on a character I didn’t realise could be developed any more.

If the story is all about kingpin losing respect however then that means last issues scene with the owl was more about progressing fisk rather than fleshing out the owl. Thats a shame for me as i was really hoping the owl was going to finally get his due but everything about this story is so well done that i can’t be that let down. This issue is still a five star story for me.

Two stories both with a somewhat surprising ending. Matt's sort of Daredevil but fully prepared to go through with it because he's still afraid of hurting people. I like his solution with Foggy but, of course, things don't go to plan. It's sad watching him struggle to be what he once was. The ending with Elektra is a good story decision - not just for Matt but for her as well.

Fisk's dinner is interesting. There's sort of thise sense that he's trying for respectability but not quite getting it. Of course, by the end, there's a sense that he can't escape who he was.

Four and a Half Stars.

Awesome issue!

I absolutely love how the Matt and Fisk's stories are moving in opposite directions. The ending was quite surprising and it certainly makes me excited for what's to come.

I said it before, I wanted to see if Zdarsky could do something different with the Matt/Elektra dynamic and so far it looks promising. I like the idea of her helping Matt get back into form.

Lastly, the art continues to be absolutely stunning!

5 stars for me!
