This episode is the true Fisk episode, flashback and all. It starts with the lonely meal for one (feels kinda like my meals), but there's a nice touch with him wearing a Kimono (tying to his past in Japan). The flashbacks were a real trip back in time. I thought they were great. Showing the moments that made him who he is, including his terrible father (another great Wire casting) was cool - particularly when they tied it in with the painting. In the present, he's not at the top of his game and the two stories together make him seem weaker. But the finding strength through Vanessa and going public at the end (combined with the lightening of his suit) let him emerge triumphant as a just as scary threat.
Four and a Half Stars.

Refresh my memory.. What comic was that that told the story of Fisk's childhood? I remember reading it a couple years ago when i found Daredevil but now I can't remember where to look for it. The episode made me want to look back |

Pardon me.. You can disregard that. I ended up finding it myself. I was pretty sure it was something early in volume 2 buy knew it wasn't written by Kevin Smith. I decided to just start pulling comics from that time frame and believe it or not the first one I pulled out was correct.
If anyone else is looking to read about Wilson Fisk and a mouse named Benjamin Franklin it's in Daredevil vol. 2 no. 15 |

I loved the construction of this episode. Showing Fisk in his lonely routine was a nice touch. And the weaving in of Rabbit in a Snowstorm was very well done. When I saw how the kid in the mirror looked, I was stunned at how much it looked like David Ross's drawing of young Wilson in David Mack's "Parts of a Hole."
We're very lucky to have such quality writers and filmmakers working on this show.
I found one thing confusing. When Hoffman enters Blake's hospital room to give him the lethal injection, I guess I, the viewer, am supposed to assume that Matt was there all along. If so, why did he let Hoffman give him the injection? There was plenty of time for Matt to detect that Hoffman had snuck in a syringe. Hoffman even says to Blake, "I'm sorry," giving away that he's doing something he shouldn't. If Matt wasn't there all along, there's no trace of him entering through the window while this is happening. So why didn't he stop him? It's a rather large plot hole. |

There is no indication Matt was there the whole time, given his martial arts training, he likely quietly snuck in while Hoffman was poisoning his partner. |

Just to elaborate, it's the Parts of a Hole story by David Mack. A lot of that backstory was actually from Mack's own childhood.

Isn't his origin explored more fully in Last Rites? Complete with hammer time?
Anyway, this episode was amazing. I love Fisk. I love Vanessa. I love that he put on a grey suit. It's all good.
