With this issue, Matt Murdock completes his journey. He again embraces his identity as Daredevil, and it's beautiful. I don't feel out of line comparing the impact of this issue's final splash page to the splash page in "Born Again" when he faces Nuke with flames at his back.

He witnesses, during Hell's Kitchen's lowest moment, how much Daredevil means to his neighbourhood. Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto render it perfectly, as Matt stands guard over over a fake Daredevil as he passes away.

Quote:
Daredevil.. Daredevil was a symbol.
I tainted it, and they took it back.
It was bigger than me. It was always bigger than me.
They carried my burden, my sins.
But they shouldn't have to.

Zdarsky has, for a while now, shown how Matt wants to dodge the responsibility his powers bring, but he can't. Here, Matt realizes he can't dodge the symbol, the image and the hope that Daredevil represents for Hell's Kitchen. He puts on the dead man's mask and faces off against his most deadly enemy.

This will no doubt stand as the climax of Zdarsky's run. It feels like the 20th issue will be a barn burner, and then Zdarsky will gracefully end this story. I don't want him to leave the title though. I've absolutely been loving his run.

I was completely surprised by Sister Elizabeth in this issue. I'm assuming she was placed in that church by Fisk, in order to keep tabs on Matt.

I may be predictable, but I'm giving this issue another perfect score.

What an epic issue. That was the greatest single issue I've read in a decade. Wow. I hope Chip stays. I read this issue and last issue back to back. Loving Cole's growth as well. He and Matt make a great team. He's everything Blindspot should've been.

This issue actually choked me up a bit. It started off very dramatic with everything as essentially a literal war zone. There was so much death and destruction. Seeing Fisk powerless as mayor just made the Stromwyns seem unstoppable. It was cool seeing the badies having their different personalities. I liked how Bullet didn't want to kill.

But it was very emotional seeing all the people of the neighborhood stand up to fight for themselves - especially with Daredevil as their symbol. Something like that was needed to redeem what had happened and it was great.

Five Stars.
