First, I've noticed how many (most?) DD reviewers \ readers look at Bru's first year (DD 82-93) as the conclusion of the stories begun by Bendis.
Personally, I respectfully, and wholeheartedly, disagree:
I think Bendis ended his run with a definite conclusion. Sure, it wasn't a "happy ending" (and not a bad one, but a pulp-themed, noir one, but I digress), but it was a conclusion for all the groundwork he laid for years... Bru has Vanessa pretty much come out and say it in DD 92, and it's pretty natural for a writer to want to be judged on his own, and complete merit - regardless of the flawless transition between the past and current master of DD lore (but once again, I digress...).
On that note, I think that Bru is setting his run the same way as Bendis' - with 25 issues equal a "season" of sorts (like I stated in my Bendis run post) and DD 82-93 are set as the first part of that "season" - imagine a string of episodes before a "fall finale", set to close a cliffhanger ending from "last season" (DD 81) and to lay the groundwork for the rest of the season - before the second year, which, IMO, will bring Matt's world crashing down once more (albeit in different ways).
