As for direction, I think it's inevitable that Matt will return to Hell's Kitchen at some point. However, I hope such a move doesn't happen in the very first issue of the next incoming writer. In fact, I'd love to see Matt travel the world for a bit. Have some adventures abroad and I've always wanted to see more of him in Japan (or at least Asia). Plus, I'd like them to maintain a balance between light and dark elements within the stories. |
I was gonna finish reading the posts before I commented, and glad I did. I like Fraction a lot and always kind of wondered how he'd handle DD. Exciting time right now though to see who they pick! |

As much as I enjoyed Fraction's run on Hawkeye, he has a certain kind of style to his writing that I find to be kind of irritating that I really can't put my finger on as why, so I really hope he wouldn't come on as the new DD writer. I thought his style was good for Hawkeye but don't feel it would fit Daredevil at all.
I haven't really read any of Jason Aaron's stuff yet so I can't really comment on how I would feel with him on the book. I am going to get the big hardcover of the first 11 issues of his Thor run, maybe after I've read it I'd have a better opinion of his stuff.
I think Greg Rucka would be great but I think he's pretty much done with Marvel and DC these days.
For a return to a darker tone on the book my picks would have to be Jonathan Hickman, Cullen Bunn, Kieron Gillen, Jeff Lemire and especially Brian Wood. |

Am I the only one that thinks Fraction is pissed off at Marvel? I love his Hawkeye series, and it's supposedly not over yet, but it gets published whenever it gets published, and he used to write so many series for Marvel, but I think it looks like he's making a new nest at Image.

Read his run on The Incredible Hulk.

I haven't enjoyed anything by Hickman or Bunn yet. I don't know Gillen or Wood. Lemire is great, but he seems to be the exclusive property of DC. |

I've been reading Jason Aaron and Ron Garney's Men of Wrath. It is great! I wouldn't mind reading his take on DD.
I also love, love, love Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt's series The 6th Gun. If you aren't reading that series you are missing out. |

I would love to see Warren Ellis on DD. Not because I am a huge fan or because he is my favorite writer. I want him on DD because he is crazy awesome!
Reason enough for him to be my fave writer.
As for artist. I love the fact that Rivera, Martin, and Samnee showed us that it is not such a bad idea to see colors on DD. So why not up the ante a bit and have Humberto Ramos draw DD. And for covers...the Humberto Ramos painted over images from Spider-Man and his Revelations series are great to look at! Look at his DD...cartoony but oh so gritty!

At this point I'd welcome just about anyone. As soon as possible. Please.
Jeff Lemire would be awesome though. |

I've read two things Jeff Lemire, Trillium, and The Underwater Welder, on the strength of those two, I bought The Collected Essex County and Sweet Tooth trades volumes 1-6, and I've pre-ordered his Hawkeye trade.
Trillium and The Underwater Welder were phenomenal and I'm quite looking forward to the other books. |

I'd like to see David Hine get a proper run at the character. Not sure if he's still doing stuff for DC, or if he's a free agent again, but Redemption was superb. I would happily second a Christos Gage or David Lapham run, though. |

Though I will forever be grateful to Mark Waid for making Daredevil finally accessible to me, at this point, I can't wait for a new writer.
My only fear (ironic given my name) is that the next writer will be just as bad if not worse. I mean, the issues I have with Waid are pretty common in comics these days. Who knows? The next writer might make Matt stay in the office using his superpowers to answer the phone. While San Fran's newest superheroine, Kirsten McDuffie(!), uses only her wits and phrases she learned from buzzfeed to make the world a "better" place!
...it seems all too possible. |

What do you guys think about Lee Weeks? I really liked his three issue story in DD: Dark Nights.
At least bring him on as artist once Samnee is gone. I have loved Samnee's work though, and it would be interesting to see how, if any, his pencils might change under a different writer, like Lee Weeks.
Edit:
Christos Gage would also be pretty damn awesome. I've enjoyed his Spider-man and he's already writing for the show, right? |

Writing:
Charles Soule deserves it after She-Hulk and the obvious qualification. He's busy but i think he'd be great. If the direction is going to be Matt Murdock centered especially in light of the celebrity lawyer angle, Fraction would be good too since Hawkeye was entertaining and Clint driven.
Warren Ellis if he was free and the direction was completely daredevil driven (his work on a detective Moon Knight was incredible for shifting the status quo) and he'd prob get rid of the Matt Murdock identity and just focus on daredevil since Matt has had so much exposure out of costume.
Art:
Lee Weeks was the best part Dark Nights and the art holds up considerably next to tone. i'd enjoy him to get another ongoing since his work was also great in fall of the king.
I've always had a soft spot for Clayton Crane's art in Spiderman Toxin and Secret war's Gabriele Dell'Otto
A David Finch Daredevil if the tone went back to dark would be great too.
See, the big question is where do we go after we've experienced Bendises gritty and Waid's swashbuckling? What foundation is given to the next writer? I truly believe that question will be answered with the fate of Kirsten and how Matt deals with it. |

I've recently gotten into Usagi Yojimbo (probably my new favourite series) and if it shows anything it's that a great character can continue to have great stories without much status quo change. That's from just one man writing and drawing.
Matt Murdock is one of the greatest characters ever created. Full stop. He just needs a team that want to tell good stories. No agendas, no 'ground breaking', just quality stories.
The greatest creations come from sincerity. It only takes talent and the right motives and we'll be away.
(With Secret Wars coming up I worry that things are going to be going in the opposite direction for a while. All novelty and event dictated plots.) |

On the art front, I wouldn't mind Steve Epting.
Not since the days of David Mazzucchelli has someone actually attempted something approaching photo-realism with Daredevil. It would be a nice change from all the angular, indistinct Maleev worship we had from 2003-2010... and the bubbly, pastel pop-art we've had since 2011.
Epting's been doing more showy, cape stuff primarily since his run on Captain America started. But he has a darker style than most of the photo-realistic school of comic artists. I think he would fit like a glove on Daredevil. |
