Hi everyone! I'm new to the boards, but I've been a super-fan for like forever.

Anyway, I work in a comic shop and the latest DD discussion has been mostly all about Mila hating--a sport I rather enjoy as I am NOT a fan of hers. Most of us at my local store all seem to have a big soft spot for the Matt/Natasha pairing. There is just something about those two that is sexy, fun, and interesting. I am a big Black Widow fan in general, so I am a bit biased. Also, I kind of enjoyed the Matt/Maya storyline too. Echo is just a cool character.

I was just wondering what you all thought. Who do you guys like Matt with?

Milla has never been my "favourite DD girl", but I like Matt with her.

*sigh* Poor Milla. Sad

Edited, off topic:
Can I have my title changed to "The Mysterious Masked Matador"? I don't like "ninja".

It's been quite a while since I've chimed in here on the boards...as for relationships, I too always like the DD/Widow pairing. I can't say as I'm a huge Mila fan either (she seems to have her moments from time to time) but I do think she's worked well up to this point. I'm not real sure how much you can do with her in her current state so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

I am currently becoming a pretty big fan of Dakota North. Brubaker's made her a strong supporting character although I do hope that she and Matt don't get 'involved' in any way.

Francesco - I'm not sure if the titles still work they way they used to (like I said, haven't posted in forever) but they used to be linked to the number of posts you had made and referenced a different story arc in the DD mythos. The more posts, the better the story arc/title. So maybe the only way to ditch 'Ninja' is to post more!

My first impulse was to say... "Glorianna O'Breen", but then I realized that the thing that makes her endearing to me is that she eventually chose Foggy over Matt, which demonstrated she was a discerning gal with excellent taste., so make her my favourite chica de Foggy

I must have stated about a gazillion tines that I thoroughly hate "Allen Smithee" for writing the (very poor) story where she was gratuitously killed? Well, here you have me saying that again: it was a lousy development, and done just to have Matt angsting and clenching his teeth in a couple of pannels. Grrrrr...

As for La Nati, hum, she's my SECOND best option, because of the shared interest in weasring spandex pajamas, and both are hot in action (and possibly, hum, out of it)... And yet... I feel that the catholic guy within Matt ultimately wouldn't accept a girl that is so independent (and, while this has not been stated, very likely to be an atheist, LOL), and I feel that there is some truth in something which was stated in an old DD story, in the sense that Matt feel more at home in the role of hero who helps, protects and saves damsels in distress, this role being one which Natasha isn't inclined to play.

My favourite DD girl? Karen Page.

In spite of her "secretary in love with the boss" and quintessential damsel in distress for a lot of issues in volume 1, she grew into a much more interesting character thanks to Frank Miller, Ann Nocenti and Karl Kesel.

And then she was murdered by Kevin "Smithee". Grrr, Grrr, Grrr

Oh, and Dakota/Matt? Puh-leez! Must every female in the series fall for him? That would be not very original, and would doom Dakota to die in whatever future story "Allen Smithee" might write in Daredevil, in which Dakota would be gratuitously killed in a (very poor) story, just to have Matt angsting and clenching his teeth in a couple of pannels.

I'd vote for a Dakota/Foggy instead, anytime... Have you noticed that both have a solid sense of humour? And she's a clever enough woman to know that there's more to a man than the mere appearance.

(Yes, I'm biased here, haw, haw)

I'd say Karen Page as well. I think Matt and Natasha will always stay in the friends with benefits category (presumably), and I don't see how a relationship between the two of them would ever work out. Natasha moves in very different circles, and Matt is much more of a regular guy. Well, by superhero standards anyway. But I don't really agree with Gloria that the women he dates need to be in the damsel in distress category.

When it comes to Milla, I don't necessarily think she was ever destined to play that role (except for in the circumstances of their first meeting), but sort of ended up there anyway, because that's what writers tend to do. As for her being blind, that's really a minor factor once Bullseye decides to show up in your bedroom. I sort of like Milla - in theory - and I feel really bad about what happened to her. My biggest problem with her, and their relationship, is that we really never learned all that much about them as a couple. While I think Brubaker did well in issue #95 of showing her to also be something of an adrenaline junkie with a certain fiery streak, we still don't know anything about what made the two of them tick (unless you want to base an entire relationship on a shared preference for non-visual entertainment). But, there was never anything wrong with her as a character. She could have worked better than she did.

Typhoid Mary!

See the marvelous essay with pictures at http://daredevil.dreamhost.com/cltyphoid.htm that meticulously outines how the two of them were meant for each other.

As if you didn't already know this, my favourite is Natasha, but in the way Christine describes.

Typhoid Mary! Well, not really. Not in a "long term" way anyways. I do love the character though.

Also love Milla.

But I'm going to go with Karen Page. Which is apparently weird because in some Marvel Knights 10 year interview Kevin Smith and Joey Q talk about how no one liked Karen since Born Again and editorial were always trying to down play her or get rid of her.....really? Someone should tell those clowns that Born Again came out in 1986. Guardian Devil was 1998. Are you telling me that editorial didn't like Karen for 12 years? Really? And here I thought killing off Karen in Guardian Devil was just a sad stunt killing for sales.

I know this might get me a few flames on here, but I was actually glad to see them kill off Karen Page. To me, she was just a broken record. There was just something about her that just never worked for me as a character. No matter what era we're talking about she was always just kind of stagnant. Miller's work with the character might have been the only time she was ever interesting to me.

I don't agree here.

There are many other ways in which the caracter could have disappeared from the series, and wait for a good writer who knew what to do with her.

Kevin "Smithee" and Joe Fromageade weren't even original at that: they just "pulled an Elektra".

But I dunno... maybe we should be glad that they didn't "pull a Mephisto", as with some other character which was "growing stale", in opinion of its poorly talented responsibles.

(Honest, having checked the last "Mephisto pal-man" issue I can't see why that story wasn't possible with the character's previous status quo)

I don't think I get your point. Could you be a little more vague? How about throwing in a couple more cliches? "There was just something about her that just never worked for me as a character". Hahahaha.
