After years of teasing....and teasing.....and more teasing Ol' Hornhead is finally going to join The New Avengers starting at issue # 16 this September. What's everyone have to say about this news? Good? Bad? You don't care either way? Post your thoughts below. I for one think it's awesome and long overdue.

This is stupid. The Avengers don't mean anything anymore. Every Marvel superhero it seems has at one point or another been an Avenger. I can't read Bendis' take on the Avengers. Some of the worst comic books of my life have been Bendis' Avengers books. (The one where Elektra kills Echo -- mostly as an excuse to recreate Miller's famous Bullseye killing Elektra panel -- only to resurrect her on the very next page, is probably the worst.)

Bendis annoyed me enough when he was writing Daredevil. I should have known he'd get worse.

I'll stick with Daredevil's solo book.

I have mixed feeling about this!! For the first time in my DD-FAN life I'll say "I'll have to read it first and then I'll have an opinion.."

I agree that some of Bendis's Avengers stuff has been terrible, but some has also been pretty good. The whole Echo thing was a farce.
I do think that it will be good to read DD with his friends and sounds like the two DD books will be on the same page so far as whats going on. It gives us a chance to watch DD take on big super villans and monsters etc without taking away the grit and street level from his own book, surely keeping everyone happy?

The Avengers are not really a joke, just think of the main avengers book as the team proper and rest as minor league versions, the main book is still the earths mightest heros (and hawkeye).

I am SO looking forward to this. It was about time for marvel, to make daredevil one of the big players, he deserves to be! PLUS: the avengers book will draw more attention to DDs regular book, which is definately a good thing.

No, No, No, No, No, NO!

This is wrong.

Damn Bendis. He's ruined the Avengers and now he's set to drag DD into their midst.

Avengers used to be one of my favorite Marvel titles. But they are a pale shadow of their former glorious selves. Part & parcel of their appeal was the selection process. The membership drive issues were fun, exciting, left you wondering and anticipating who will join and why. This lead to another huge appeal for the team: era teams. What era was your favorite and why.

But not anymore. Thanks to Bendis, now anyone can be an Avenger. To this day, I still see no rhyme nor reason for Logan being a member.

So DD joining now seems pointless to me. Because he didn't earn it.

well just because there are certain characters who don't belong as a team player doesn't mean they can't develop. Does a loner like Wolverine really belong on any team such as the xmen much less the Avengers? No but he's fan popular. Spiderman? another loner but fan popular. How about Batman? Does he really belong on a team such as the Justice league with the cub scouts? No once again fan popular. Teams are meant for fans to see their favourite characters converse with their other favourites on a regular basis so new stories can be told while at the same time enjoying the regular run, we just get more of DD.

Also he was offered team membership by Cap, Furry and others many times during the good years of the new avengers back in the early 2000's and they wanted him for his skill (in fact his name was one of the first to come up on their recruitment list so his life and his experiences are a testiment of him earning the role) it's only because he hates himself and doesn't wish his life on anyone that he tries to spare them after the eventsof "Out". it's only now after shadowland that he wants to reconstruct his life positively and with that they're now more cynical of him. it'll offer an interesting dynamic Smile

okay that being said i understand your point, it is a joke the selection process is based on fan response. I will give you this, even though i love Moon knight, Cap back in 2006/2007 during civil war gave Spectre a "Go F%^* yourself" speech about joining pro or anti registration and said nobody wants you. "Frank Castle may be an animal and belong in a cage but you deserve to be in a strait jacket and if i wasn't so busy i'd put it on you myself" and then conveniantly when Moon knight gets some good fan press last year Cap is the one to say hey you wanna be on my super secret avengers team? No memory that their last conversation they almost ripped each other apart in Marcs apartment.

the moment Deadpool is an Avenger is the day I say i'm done

I agree that it's quite unsettling that everyone has the potential to be an Avenger. I mean Wolverine in it makes as much sense as a turned over coin. But that said, DD being an Avenger is way long overdue if you ask me. He deserves to be an Avenger more than half the mooks that has become and is an Avenger. He's Marvel's answer to Batman. DD deserves to hang with the big league. No pun intended.

Oh and speaking of the league, people may hate what Bendis is doing with the Avengers. But I guess DC loves it enought to copy it. I mean how many Justice League book will come out in September....a lot!

I don't consider the secret avengers, the new avengers or the avengers academy as avengers, they are off shoots, feeder teams, only the main book is THE Avengers.

Also the people that have a problem with Wolverine and Spiderman being on the teams, surely they have earned it? How many times have they saved the world? Probably more than just about any other hero? Well maybe not Mr Fantastic but just about every other one. Sorry dudes they are big time.

Talking of big time DD is too, I know some of the people on here like to think DD is not really a superhero and is seperate from the Marvel U but sorry he is a bigtime hero, think back to all he has done, he has fought demons, monsters and gods and held his own (ironicly under Bendis he seemed almost weak and struggled to beat anyone), he is a bigtime hero and deserves his shot at the Avengers.

Daredevil has turned down being a member of The Avengers before, for good and specific reasons.

He's a big player regardless. There is absolutely no reason for this, creatively.

As much as Daredevil is badass, he is surplus to requirements here. They have Ms. Marvel, Dr. Strange, Wolverine, The Thing, Spidey etc. Daredevil brings nothing to the table for them. If they didn't have Wolverine and Spidey, sure.

The reason the second half of Diggle's run sucked (Shadowland #2 onward, the tie-ins and the Daredevil tie-ins) is because he completely ditched the depth and insight into Matt Murdock. Daredevil's best stories are told through internal monologue and there was none of that. We rely on his mental sight to relate and feel, and experience what he is.

He's on a massive team now. He's not going to get the dialogue time. If Bendis wanted to write him again that badly, he should've simply lobbied for the new #1 instead of Moon Knight. He should have either done that or finally written Daredevil: End of Days.

This isn't going to work and it's going to subtract from the secluded, stand-alone feeling of Daredevil past.

I trust Bendis with Daredevil. I understand about the inner monologue, but seeing how Bendis really defined Daredevil for the last ten years, I trust he can guide the new direction they want for him. That is, the direction Waid's also going in of making him more mainstream and less isolated.

That said, I've heard this mistaken complaint before, so I feel the need to point it out. In the report from USA Today Bendis says End of Days is coming out in the fall. From the looks of it, it's mostly done and they just kept it back because of Shadowland.
