Is anyone interested in reading a long series of DD issues as part of a digital book club? I thought it would be fun to start at a particular point, say Smith's run and continue reading through Bendis, or read through Nocenti to Kelly, or start at the beginning, or just read storylines. I was thinking we could pick a starting point and read, review, and discuss one issue per week until we finish a run or storyline. Is anyone interested in doing this? |

I might be interested since I'm doing that sort of on my own as well, but, if you see my other thread, I have a somewhat limited pace due to budget. I can probably do Nocenti to Kelly without much difficulty (I have a few issues I don't own along the way up to Chichester and I can probably get the gaps. Nocenti's run is long enough to give me time). I found Nocenti's run fascinating (although clearly flawed) so it would be fun to discuss it. Plus, the bulk of my Nocenti issues are in actual individual issues, so I might chime in when there's a particularly funny advertisement or letter to the editor.
However, since my goal is to catch up, I might be more interested in Smith through Bendis. If we are doing an issue a week, it'll take about two months to get through Guardian Devil, which will give me time to get most of the rest of the stories we'd be discussing by the time we get to them.
So put me down as a maybe if we get others involved. _________________ Matt Murdock's cooler twin brother

Yeah you can put me down as maybe as well. If its something I'm interested in and I have time to read it ill talk about with you guys. If its something that I'm not that interested in and/or is hard to find I won't do it. This is a good idea, though. |

It sounds pretty cool. I'd love to get involved as well, but my collection is comparatively small, so there isn't as much I could read. Still sounds fun though, I'm willing to give it a go. |

I'm very busy as well, so I thought an issue per week could be something we could all handle. Let's start off with something we all own so no one is left out. As we go along, we plan in advance in case we need to find some issues. I am happy to start with any run. Here are a few ideas that we can choose from to get the ball rolling:
Smith's run
Bendis' run
Nocenti run
DD Yellow mini
Redemption mini
Father mini
Let's see if we can all agree on one and give it a go. |

I'd be interested! Is there some place other than Comixology or Marvel Unlimited where I can fill in the gaps of Vol. 1? Most of Nocenti's run is absent from both those sites , as well as everything between the Inferno tie-in and Guardian Devil. |

Have you checked ebay? A lot of that run is pretty cheap. |

I literally ordered most of it from Midtown Comics's website (order in bulk to save on shipping) and got the rest from Amazon (where, unfortunately shipping is individual).
For Nocenti, I have everything but 238 and 253 (iirc). However, if another author wrote the issue, I won't have it (I also can't find 240 around my apartment for some reason, although I know I own it). Given my struggles to get through Chichester at the moment, I'm not sure if I can make it all the way through (his early stuff isn't bad, though).
I currently have Smith's run. I plan on having all the way through Vol. 2, Issue 40 by mid-October (so about a third of the way through Bendis's run). If we're doing an issue a week, that's completely manageable. _________________ Matt Murdock's cooler twin brother

Thanks! I'll check into both if need be. And hope that I can either find a Canadian seller or that shipping won't put the cost up too much... (Unemployed. Love Marvel Unlimited for that reason. Mostly gone digital these days. But if the cost is reasonable, I'll get it and if it's not, I'll wait till something I can already access is under discussion. ) |

Works for me too. I will be dependent on shipping times for anything after that, but something would have to go seriously wrong. _________________ Matt Murdock's cooler twin brother

Ok, we'll start with DD vol. 2, #1, by Smith. By next week, Sept. 28, we will all have read the issue and responded here. Hopefully we can all respond early to leave a little time for discussion. |

Oh damn, you could not have picked a worse week to start. I will do my best to have it by the 28th, but I can't say if I'll have it any sooner. _________________ Matt Murdock's cooler twin brother
