Issue Summary

Summary by Kevin Hollander

Matt Murdock continues his multi-layered plan to bring down the Kingpin. Going undercover he continues to chip away the Kingpin's reputation through his unwitting association with the terrorist organization Hydra. The power-hungry gang members begin to wonder who else could manipulate the Kingpin.

In Dallas, Hydra member Garotte - who masqueraded as Fisk's business partner .Colonel Strang. - is on a video conference with Baron Von Strucker. They discuss the success in their mission to gain a foothold into the American news medium through Fisk. Since .Strang. is no longer needed, Garotte is in the process of packing his belongings when he is kidnapped by Maltese, the Kingpin's right-hand man and brought to New York.

Daredevil stops by the New York office of Federal prosecutor Kathy Malper. He offers her the information on the Kingpin he acquired from S.H.I.E.L.D. (#298) but is rejected due to her general distrust of super-heroes. However after DD saves her from an assassination attempt by an Asian drug lord, she changes her mind. He offers the information on Fisk in exchange for her help in restoring .Matt Murdock's. law license. After reviewing the information, she agrees to work with him.

The next day, Matt meets Karen Page in Central Park to continue their efforts to rebuild their relationship. Matt eventually discovers he's being monitored by Nick Fury with a miniature remote-controlled submarine. He quickly throws a rock at the periscope, destroying it and ending their observation.

When Garotte is brought before Fisk, he is first beaten and then questioned about disclosing their association. Fisk blames him for the information leak and Garotte blames Fisk. They are completely unaware that Murdock is responsible for this.

Garotte suggests to Fisk that he check his bank accounts. Fisk is horrified to learn that his accounts are empty. Garotte explains that when he initially accepted the electronic payment, they planted a virus in his system.

Before the Kingpin can order his death, an helicopter armed with high-caliber weapons appears. It begins firing and creates a large hole in the side of the building. The Kingpin takes cover and watches as many of his men are killed. (It is assumed since Garotte didn't check in, Hydra executed this contingency plan.)

As Garotte leaves on the helicopter, he informs the Kingpin that all his properties . legal and illegal . have been destroyed. Fisk steps up to the opening and sees the plumes of smoke and the fires that mark where his businesses once stood. He looks out over the city in complete disbelief.
