Wait, are you saying:
1. The character seems to have turned himself in voluntarily but he actually did it for reasons that are as yet unknown.
or:
2. Bendis and Bru intend to fashion a "just kidding, it was all a trick by a third party" storyline.
Insofar as Matt is an imaginary person (1) can't be the case. And how likely is (2)? In a lot of ways Bendis' run was like Born Again. Both were stories that had Matt mental state at their core. In this way, the whole Bendis arc really was about explaining why Matt would turn himself in. To have a last minute "NOPE....IT WAS PURPLE MAN" thing happen would undercut the entire story.
Just compare it to Born Again. One of the great things about Born Again was how it approached Matt's mental state in a realistic way. Matt was breaking down and it all seemed very real. That's what made the story so powerful. Now imagine if the rug was pulled out from under us. Say Matt wasn't crazy but it was just work of a third party (Mysterio perhaps) using a stupid prop (say....a cross). That would suck (like Guardian Devil).
Nope, no one's behind it. What you see is what you get. _________________ JC
