It occurs to me that it's almost time to hand out the 2007 pull list awards. Time to see who the DC/Marvel/Bendis/etc. Fanboys really are and who's really going out of their way to win the "Kick Ass!" and "WTF?" awards. Before we can get to the prizes we first need to know who's pulling what. So, what is everybody picking up these days?

I'm on a strict trade only diet. These are the trades I pick up (or will pick up when they come out):

Daredevil (surprise!)
Astonishing X-Men
Fables (best comic in print)
Invincible
The Walking Dead
The Boys (somehow more horrifying than expected)
Y the Last Man (out of a sense of duty)
Ex Machina
NextWave (only one last trade on the way...sigh)
Allstar Superman
Allstar Batman (when it finally comes out in trade)

Ongoing Titles:
Daredevil
Immortal Iron Fist
Moon Knight
Cable/Deadpool
Criminal

Mini's (either current or starting shortly that have already been ordered):
Daredevil: Battlin' Jack Murdock
New Avengers/Transformers
Transformers Beast Wars: The Ascending

Also starting to pick up Brubaker's Captain America run in HC/TPB. Prefer HC, but they stopped printing them after the Winter Soldier arc.

My old roommate rants and raves about Fables although I haven't had a chance to check it out myself. I've really enjoyed Astonishing (picking those up as they come out in HCs), and what I've read of Walking Dead (borrowed a friend's copy of the monster slipcase HC they released).

1. Iron Man - I know, I know; I keep waiting to drop it, but they keep me hanging on by being just interesting enough . . . and I loved Iron Man when I was, like, 10 years old.

2. New Avengers - just started because I'm worried that this is going to impact our man DD and I need to know - plus, I like the art these days

3. Daredevil (of course) - still spending most of my money on TPBs and back issues, so it precludes the other stuff I would be interested in that is current.

I love hearing about some of the other stuff that you guys are reading, though, I read it in my LCS sometimes!

I think you recommended the hardcover. I just picked it up and WOW! So good! Also, the hardcover really is put together very nicely. As much as I love the stories, I definitely want to wait for the hardcovers on this one. Very Happy

Have you read any of this, yet? Personally, I'd rather have dental surgery in Haiti than read these issues again. Razz

Flash
Incredible Hulk
World War Hulk
Daredevil

I know, I know. My expectations are...shall we say...low. Very low. At the same time though I seem to have a much higher tolerance for modern day Miller than most. As you may recall, I really liked DK2. Comically, the main reason I'm sort of doubting the series is that I don't like Lee's art that much.

In any event, I'm enough of a sucker that I will buy literally anything with Batman and Miller on the cover.

Plus, if it's the same HC format as Allstar Superman it might be worth buying just for the presentation.

My list:
Amazing Spider-Man
Friendly Neighborhood S-M
Sensational S-M (This has been my favorite of the Spidey titles)
Amazing S-G
DD
New Avengers
Mighty Avengers
Powers
Captain America
Ultimate S-M
The Ultimates
Thunderbolts
Moon Knight (will probably drop at the end of the current arc)
Wolverine (Just started reading from the beginning)
Squadron Supreme (Does this title still exist?)
The Initiative
Omega Flight (was a mini, then ongoing, now ?)
New Warriors

Minis:
Battlin' Jack
Fallen Son
Illuminati
Onslaught (never read the original, nor Heroes Reborn)
Ultimate Power
White Tiger
S-M/FF
Kabuki: Alchemy
New Avengers/Transformers (I'm on the fence with this)

This is why I won't get into the DCU. There's no more room in my house!

From the beginning of this volume, as in the issues written by Greg Rucka? If so, you are reading my favorite Wolverine stories hands down! (The Claremont/Miller mini is a very close second.) I love Rucka's Wolverine so much that when he left the book, I just couldn't handle anyone else's take on the character.

And Fables. Honestly, everyone should be reading Fables. I can't explain how good it is. It's like Willingham had the best idea of all time. He somehow tapped into (created) a world with so many possibilities and neat ideas that it's just mind boggling. The result is a comic that seems to be falling over itself to get to the next unexpected or fantastic or touching or exciting moment. It puts everything else to shame.

I am embarrassed to write that after I was so disappointed with Marvel after Civil War and dropped so many of their titles, I have come back to those titles I canceled. I am so weak willed. I hang my head in shame. Embarassed

Here is my pull list.

Green Lantern
Superman
Action Comics
All-star Superman*
Superman Confidential*
Flash-The Fastest Man Alive
Green Arrow (soon to be GA year one and then GA and Black Canary)
Aquaman
Batman
Detective Comics
Justice League of America*
Hawkgirl (I am buying this just to complete my Hawkman series, they are canceling it soon)

Daredevil
Amazing Spider-man
Incredible Hulk
Fantastic Four
Captain America
Iron Man
(Upcoming) Thor
Moon Knight*
Punisher (MAX)

Miniseries
World War Hulk
Shazam and the Monster Society of Evil
Trials of Shazam

(* titles I will be dropping when current writers are gone)

Man! I didn't realize I was buying so many.

Starting from the original mini to the 1988 Claremont/Buscema work including Marvel Comics Presents through the Weapon X issues in MCP (I think by Barry Windsor-Smith) to the end of the original series. I am missing 3 issues, though (#146-148). Then going into the latest series starting with the Rucka issues. It'll probably take me a few weeks to get to those, but the rest of the family will be away this weekend, so I should be getting a pretty good start.

I recently picked up a special reprint of #1 for $.25. It was excellent. Don't laugh, but it reminds me of what's being done in the Ultimate universe, that is, reimagining established characters so that besides the story put in front of you, you are also reminded of the classic original tales and can be entertained by how those original characters will be upgraded, or downgraded, as the case may be. The big difference, being that the Fables characters come from a different area of literature and therefore, their new interpretation is that much fresher and, to me, much more interesting. As with anything, it's all about the execution and based on the 1st issue at least, Willingham's execution is flawless. I see a major trade expense in my future.
