Daredevil Message Board The Board Without Fear!
|
The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

Word.
So, he's not a lothario or a womanizer or ladies' man. He just cheated on Karen Page with Typhoid Mary and it freaked me out. Sorry.
Oh, and on top of the muscles, I bet the ladies find his blindness kinda sexy. Also, I can't find it now, but I remember one issue with the Widow (in the '80s) where Matt's detailing his senses and it cuts meaningfully to her face when he talks about heightened 'touch.' |

There was a scene where Matt was tempted and kissed Black Widow just before the end of Volume 1. He was involed with Karen at this time. THIS is an example of Matt "cheating."
Typhoid's power is made clear. She maniuplates men. Like the Kingpin, Matt and several men who were shown to "fall in love" with her during Nocienti's run. So, I just don't see this as Matt truly "cheating" with Typhoid.

I know it's not regarded as canon, but he did sleep with his client in Miller's Elektra Lives Again.
Also he was coming off as a bit of a serial monogamist at the beginning of Volume 2, when he got involved with Echo so soon after Karen died, and then right after Parts of a Hole he was flirting with Kate Vinokur big time. Not quite playa behaviour, and it seemed to be the fault of Quesada sloppily slapping together various writers' stories. Still, it didn't really make Matt's affections seem sincere. |

The whole Echo thing (following Karen's death) was just crap by Marvel writers and editors who really don't know Matt at all. For God's sake, Matt didn't turn over heaven and hell to look for Bullseye either. The Matt I know would have done that (for killing Karen). Plain and simply put, alot of stuff happned during this time that made no sense.
Looking at the long history of DD, you are pointing out some stuff that happened (and is happening to Marvel still, in general--which is why I'm now looking at Vertigo titles) under the eye of Joey Q. A monkey (like, Kevin Smith and MSJ) who characterizes Matt as a "hound" when it comes to the ladies. Whatever.

Well, if I thought he was coming off as a bit of a hound at the beginning of Volume 2, I don't think that anymore. In fact, given all his recent problems, he seems very devoted to Milla, and in the latest issue, he's very stern with Lily. She says to him, "I didn't know you were married," and he replies, "Well now you do." I don't think he was in his right mind when he married Milla, and I predict time will prove that he shouldn't have. But for now I think Matt is honestly trying to uphold his marriage. |

I don't feel Matt was depicted as a promiscuous fellow. He might have had a girlfriend, break up, and after some time he would have a new one.. Of course, having an Ex like Natasha is bound to bring trouble with any other girlfrend.
His "bad reputation", IMHO, mostly springs from the writers' intentions to duplicate a sucessful pattern "oh! this Elektra thing really worked! let's repeat it to see if it works again"... So we have been plagued by ersatz Elektras ever since (Echo, Tiphoyd Mary), and of course, it was mandatory for these writers to have Matt falling in love with them.
I loved Karl Kesel's run because, instead of having Matt meeting the yet another "dangerous/nutty ninja girl", he had the guts of taking an original path: Matt could be with Karen , and be happy (and of course, having some rows, too, just as most any couple eventually does).
Making Matt happy... this idea is so revolutionary it must be fordidden _________________ Gloria
