Yeah I thought so too. Though I have yet to see him using it while in costume, which I think would bring us back to whole pocket problem. And the security issues. Wink

There's also that extra phone he gets in the Playing to the Camera arc (which was weird on a lot of levels...) when his lawyer needs to reach him as DD.

The interesting thing about this phone is that it was given to him by the Avengers, so it was supposed to be a safe line. I think that was an interesting idea. I mean, a DD specific phone, with security blocks by the Avengers , Reed Richard's or Shield to prevent secret ID leaks (well, further secret ID leaks).

Well, I know that with all the registration nonsense, Murdock might have no longer the necessary connections to do so, but there must be a way he can be located while he's jumping around rooftops .

What about having bluetooth in his horns?

I'm thinking, that even with a non-100% safe means of communication, that could be solved with a secret language and codenames

Something like:
-Devil Dog to Blind Bat, Devil Dog to Blind Bat. Blind Bat, are you receiving me?
- I hear you Devil Dog. How did you and Hot Wheels fare at the Big House?
- Oh, just fine! We make good team, you know... Anyway, Devil Bat, I am not reaching you about that.
- What's the matter? Rolling Pin Trouble?
- No, State Of The Union just got a MSG from The Horror, The Horror. There's a Big Party at Grid 120 D. You should go and Check it.
- OK, Heading there, Devil Dog.
- But wait, Blind Bat, it's a Really Big Party: It would be wise to attend it with Yellow Slippers and Funky Man.
- OK, I'll get in touch with them.

Now, let's do a little game: do you identify the people and things referred to in the secret code?

Yes, I think I got mostof them. You'll tell me if I'm right. Here goes:

Devil Dog - Foggy (poor thing is probably still missing Deuce)
Blind Bat - DD (are you trying to give him even more of a complex for just being "blind Batman"? Wink)
Hot Wheels - Becky
Big House - court
Devil Bat - Matt and Foggy's love child (or a confused Gloria...)
Rolling Pin Trouble - could refer to DD's billy club or the law, I'm not sure on this one.
State Of The Union - ?
MSG - message
The Horror - ?
Big Party - big brawl/fight/random disturbance
Really Big Party - really big brawl/fight/random disturbance
Yellow Slippers - Iron Fist
Funky Man - Luke Cage

How did I do? Shocked (I love that emoticon, it's so cute).

Those are OK! you get a Stan Lee guaranteed "No-Prize"
Well, the blind Bat thing was more about Matt's radar than any Bruce Wayne connections, but, yes, maybe we should find another codename.

Domestic trouble

You are right. I shoud have written "blind Bat". I guess I was thinking about an old Bela Lugosi film (a B-series one, Lousy FX. Very funny)

jumonji wrote:

Dakota North

jumonji wrote:

The Horror - ?

Admittedly, this one was a bit too oblique, and the character is very recent: it refers to detective Kurtz, Dakota's friend at NYPD

Yeah, I know you weren't referencing that "other" bat. Smile

But speaking of No-Prizes, does anyone know if there has been an unusual number of No-Prizes handed out to DD readers or if it's been pretty typical compared to other books? Just looking at older issues it seems that readers have frequently caught writers making mistakes that would be fairly unique to this particular book in that more than half of them are about DD, well, "seeing things." Some mistakes are so glaring that you have to wonder what the heck the writers and editors were thinking. Like DD saying to some villain he's never met before that he recognized him by his red suit... Laughing

Going back to the original topic of the computer. I just wanted to say that you really can't get anything done now as far as legal research without a computer and he is an attorney. Lexis Nexis is the most popular search engine for cases. He could easily have a computer that talks to him or something.

Sure there's a lot of assistive technology out there. Window Eyes and Jaws being the big two right now, but others that are coming into their own as speech synthesizer software. I would like to see this worked into the book at some point.

I totally agree with both of you and what you've said supports my original point (before the thread went off track, it was fun though) which was that
1) it's unrealistic for him not to have a computer. Even if he wasn't a lawyer I can think of few qualified jobs these days that don't require some form of computer work.
2) there's no reason for him not to be able to do his own computer work. Period.

One more thing. Congratulations to Alice for passing the 1,000 posts mark! Cool! Very Happy

I agree with you on both points... Still, the reason we don't see Matt working with computers is that he's probably too busy with his "other job"... Maybe he probably thinks that with Foggy, Becky and Dakota around to deal with the non-vigilante chores, he shouldn't bother with that.

Another possible reason? maybe superpeople can't work with computers: we recently saw the Black Tarantula crashing Dakota's PC with grand style, and thanks to Sally Floyd, we know that Captain America doesn't know what Myspace is.

I see what you're saying, but that would be like saying he shouldn't bother coming into his regular job at all because occasionally having to do something that requires computer access would be part of his regular job. And Dakota should have better things to do than check his email. I don't think we necessarily need to see him do anything with it, it's just odd that it's missing from his office when everyone else has computers (Foggy has one for instance). Matt's life is obviously everything but normal right now, and he probably doesn't have time to do any work at all except keep everything from falling apart, but his office should be equipped for whatever it is he's doing when he's actually working.

Laughing You mean that maybe they send out some weird vibe or something? No, but I can honestly see why Matt might be someone who would be a little "computer phobic," like he just doesn't want to bother because it's a hassle or something. He should just get over it though and get a MySpace account (although something tells me, and this is just a hunch, that that site isn't particularly accessible). Then he could show Captain America how to get a MySpace account and then they could both be friends with Bru and Lark and all kinds of "meta" madnesss would ensue.

... And then Mr. Fear, Bullseye or the Red Skull would attack them by just sending spam or viruses, which is indeed a crappy thing to do, but always more civilized than screwing the lives of their loved ones Razz
