The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

Well, I wasn't indifferent to DD when the Chichester-McDaniel era started... so for me the uniform change, etc wasn't necessary at all... OK, not everybody is a hardcore DD fan and Marvel tried something to interest other people in the character... maybe the trouble was, it was the 90s (the horror, the horror...), and the re-boot was done in true nineties style.
While I don't like "Guardian Devil", I must admit that the Volume 2 reboot worked into getting attention back to the character, but it has been not so much owed to gimmicks (like Matt faking his death -again- or a new uniform), but to a better editorial policy: that is give a character good creative teams and good stories... It may not make DD a flagship character like Spidey, but has kept interest in the character, extatic reviews and decent sales (of course, stories like Civil War or One More Day sell much more than DD, but I'm mighty glad that Dd doesn't get this type of stories).
I believe you're right in saying that the grey armoured suit looked reasonably good when drawn by its creator, and not so much when drawn by anyone else... Still, and as you have already stated, Wally Wood created a timeless classic when he created the red outfit.
Mind you, I quite like the first Chichester run (the one drawn mainly by Lee Weeks), but... what came after... Armoured suit apart, it's the whole Vodoo Matt, Surgeon General, "Jack Battlin' idea, and Glorianna's death (if it is true that it was Chichester hiding under the Allan Smithee alias) to boot... Honest, to me, the Kesel run coming after it was like seeing the sunlight again after an Arctic night.
On the other hand, it is true that Chichester might be a bit too unfairly disregarded: not my favourite DD writer, but one must give him credit for having been there first... I.e. the first time Matt was outed by the press as Daredevil was in a story by Chichester and McDaniel (if not the first time DD's secret ID was outed by the press: that happened for the first time waaay back in the sunny Lee-Romita Sr. days)[/url] _________________ Gloria

Err....when did they bring in that policy? I thought the policy was "let's get a crappy movie writer who is popular at the moment and hire him to write a truly crappy story and have Marvel's EIC draw it in a style that doesn't fit the book at all".
It worked but that's besides the point. _________________ JC

... I meant, generally, the post-Guardian Devil average.
(I said I don't like Guardian Devil, so it can be deduced that I didn't dig the creative team responsible for it, precisely) _________________ Gloria

Note with a slight spoiler:
We get a mention of my favourite DD irish girl in the last interview to Ed Brubaker where issue 106 (and the previous ones) is (are) discussed.
There's a pannel in which Matt seems to be brooding about his lost loves, aaand... Glorianna is there!
OK, this definitely means that the fiery redhead won't come back *snif* , still... Thanks Mr. Brubaker, thanks Mr. Azaceta for remembering her! _________________ Gloria

Hey, Gloria, you never know! Maybe it's a big Bru set up. Maybe, during Milla's incarceration, Glorianna unexpectedly returns* to New York. Maybe Glorianna's reappearance is so shocking that it stirs new, unexpected feelings that have long since been forgotten. Maybe Matt gets tempted into having a tryst with his former flame. Maybe this further heightens Matt's guilt over what happened to Milla. Hence, maybe this results in causing even more female turmoil in Matt's already g-dforsaken life.
Yeah, and maybe pigs can fly.
*(Again, the girl who was murdered by Kruel did not have that Irish brogue so it could have been a case of mistaken identity.)

RMLAO!
Its true that a native accent doesn't go that easy: well, there's a wee bit of hope left here (in which case, Matt's life could be even more troubled if she comes back... to Foggy instead of Matt ) _________________ Gloria
