The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

That was a fun list (browsed all of it), but Wolverine as #1? Well, considering how many books he's in, they may have a point. Still, it felt a little uninspired.
Anyway, good to see DD ahead of many other big names like all of the FF (except the Thing), Iron Man, Punisher, almost all of the X-men... _________________ The Other Murdock Papers |

Wolverine the greatest comic book character of all time?
That's laughable. Even moreso if one reads the motivations they gave. The banality of it is astonishing:
He was so unlike the average costumed adventurer. He chain-smoked. He had a thirst for beer. He was an outcast who was alone even in a room full of friends. And he killed.
Being an outcast, smoking and drinking, killing baddies. Why, yes, that's so unlike the average costumed adventurer, of coooourse.
Superman, Batman and Spider-Man don't own the top slot simply because they live in a world of black and white, definitive right and wrong. Wolverine exists in colorful shades of gray.
Wolverine doesn't even have black and white if we wanna say it all, much less shades of gray. He just acts badass - snikt, bub, I'm the best there is at what I do - and the plot magically justifies everything he does.
But despite this nasty nature, Wolverine is man—a warrior—with a noble samurai-like sense of honor and duty.
Samurai-like sense of honor? And what the hell does it mean? Reeks of bad cliché a mile away more than anything else.
His greatest challenge lies not in formidable foes such as Magneto or Sabretooth, but in his ability to cage the beast within.
Yeah, only that in the end, no one cares when he fails to do it and he goes berserk on the baddies. Because it is "cool". And the plot will always justify his failure to cage the beast within.
Seriously, I've never seen Wolverine facing such a challange, or the consequences of it.
More than one time, instead, I've seen Daredevil being in such situations, trying to contain his rage, his violences, and often suffering the consequences if he failed to do so.
And Sabretooth a formidable foe? The one who wrote that doesn't even know the meaning of the expression "formidable foe".
The list can't be serious if they placed Wolverine first with those motivations. And because of this, it doesn't really matter where they placed DD. |

Yeah, that's ridiculous. I like Wolverine (when he's used properly) but number 1? That's nuts. I wonder if Wizard stopped to consider the fact that there are no classic Wolverine stories. When you think of Batman you think of Dark Knight Returns and Year One and Arkham Asylem and The Killing Joke and (if you're me) DK2. Those are comics that either changed or greatly contributed to the medium.
Wolverine doesn't have anything close. The only Wolverine comic I can think of that even approaches that level is the Wolverine graphic novel by Clairmont and Miller. But even that's not that good. Aside from adding the idea of "having honour" to the character it really didn't push things that far.
So, Wolverine is the number 1 comic character...but there just aren't any classic comics featuring him. _________________ JC

Just to pour on, yeah, it's laughable that Wolverine is considered #1 (unless the only voters were 13 year olds). Not one real profound Wolverine story. Wolverine is so overexposed it's ridiculous. All major crossovers have him as a "major," over the top player. But, since most of these crossovers suck, who cares?
Yorick Brown, in just one story, is so MUCH more intersting than Wolverine. Heck, even Ampersand is better _________________ rgj |

That list is laughable. Should Kitty Pryde be in the top 20? |

Nice to see so many of DD's supporting cast making the list, too. That not only demonstrates DD's enduring quality as a character, but also as a respected comic book franchise.
