The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

Good issue, but just one thing.

Dakota gives Matt an audio recording of the accused so Matt can use his senses to detect whether he's innocent or not. I don't think the recorder would pick up the accused's heartbeat or pulse rate, which is how Matt detects lies. So I don't think Matt would be able to use his senses on an audio recording. What does everyone else think?

No, you're absolutely right. A tape recorder doesn't work in that frequency or intensity range. I thought about this too, but have no problem with it. Hasn't it been suggested before that he relies on voice cues as well? Also, Dakota mentions voice tremors and even in her conversation with whomever she's on the phone with (Foggy? Luke?) she doesn't seem sure that he'll be able to do it. Whatever he heard must have been something else, and is probably as much a practiced skill as a superpower. It's probably more instinct here on his part.

I wondered this too - but yeah, even if it doesn't pick up heartbeats or pulse rates, I think there still might be some other 'tells' that Matt's enhanced senses could pick up on.

On a related note, I actually once stumbled across an article about a blind attorney (no kidding!) who was extremely good at things like jury selection because of his ability to pick up on various voice cues. No superhuman abilities required, just a very practiced ear combined with a certain "immunity" to people's appearances. So maybe Matt doesn't actually need heightened senses to do this, though it would probably help.

I don't think that Dakota took such a sensible recorder, but I think that Matt may have a perceptive ear beyond the heartbeats issue: Being used to perceive people by their voices, and not the faces they make as they speak, he might detect something which a sighted person would skip... the phrasing, the pauses, the breath, etc...
