Even though I knew this was coming out eventually I was actually surprised when I saw this on the shelf at the comic shop yesterday. So surprise, and kinda delighted, that I actually bought it as opposed to doing the grown up thing (order it off amazon to get 33% off). Anyway, it's awesome. I have the DD Miller Omnibus Companion as well and the two volumes look perfect my shelf together. The Elektra volume is done in white and red and it a perfect offset to the Companion's black and red. I can't recommend it enough.
As a bonus I've somehow managed to never read either Elektra Assassin or Elektra Lives Again. So, unbelievably, I'm about to read some new DD related Miller (I read issue 1 of Elektra Assassin last night...Miller is an interesting man).
Just to make my trip to the comic shop more expensive (and awesome) I also picked up the new HC edition of Longshot by Nocenti. It was like buying comics written by mom and dad. _________________ JC

JC, when you're done, let us know what the extras are in the book...
I remember when Elektra Assassin was coming out, I had picked up #1 at my local book shop and it was so crazy and different than anything I had ever read before. When I went to Silver Snail to pick up #2, they wouldn't let me buy it, because I wasn't over 18! lol I'd love to know what you think of Fall From Grace after you read this story. I won the TPB of this off eBay from Dan Chichester of all people.
As for Elektra Lives Again, I still remember how it kept on getting previewed in Marvel Age and teased that it was coming out this year, then the next year... it was delayed for so long I didn't think it would ever come out. I re-read it a few weeks ago and it's so over the top. _________________ Kuljit Mithra

That's hilarious. When I was just getting into comics I was buying every DD trade I could get my hands on. I had Born Again and Gang War and Marked for Death and The Elektra Saga and was naturally a massive DD/Miller fan already. I went to a local comic shop (in Calgary) and tried to buy a complete set of Elektra Assassin. The clerk called my mom over and told her he had some concerns. Long story short, I wasn't allowed to buy it and my mom was now very suspicious about all these other comics I had.
I'll let you know what I think of the stories and the extras when I get through it. For now I'm working my way through Longshot. Nocenti was years ahead of her time. Longshot has an almost Morrisson feel to it. Nocenti writes a great introduction where she comments that Longshot would never see print at today's Marvel. Wow is she right. It's almost too bad. I think if Nocenti entered the industry now she'd be doing all sort of killer stuff for Vertigo or something. _________________ JC

Nocnti has written some stuff for Vertigo (Kid Eternity I think). But It's a shame she's not doing comics anymore. |

So I finished Elektra Assassin last night. Here's what I thought:
1. Best Frank Miller I've ever read (with a possible tie going to The Hard Goodbye). Absolutely stunning. So many times I was just blown away. There one issue with multiple plots going on at the same time...but not really...if you've read it you probably know what I mean. Anyway, it's awesome.
2. The Elektra presented here is interesting. A lot more interesting than the Elektra from the main series. I don't know why people have a problem with the mind control, etc.. I think the "ninja powers" are very subtle and well done. They all make sense even within the world of Daredevil writ large.
3. Chichester sucks. I can't believe Miller hasn't hunted him down and beaten him to death. I've always been a huge fan of Fall From Grace. Now? I dunno. After finishing EA, I grabbed FFG off the shelve and was like "wait, how was Garrett handled again?". As I flipped through FFG I could feel my respect for Chichester slipping away. So what happened? Chichester retconned the end EA out of existence? Except Garrett is still around somehow? No, honestly, how does Garrett end up in a tube thinking he's the president? Did Wind get away? Was there ever a Wind? The whole thing just guts the ending of EA completely. The little recap page in FFG where Garrett sort of explains what happened in EA is just wrong.
Weirdly, I was never that bothered by Chichester bringing Elektra back. The way he dealt with Garrett makes me a lot more upset. Clearly a case of a writer trying to play with the big boy's toys but not really knowing how. The whole arc just feels more desperate and try hard to me now.
Whatever, at least Elektra Assassin rocks. _________________ JC
