I like him as an Anti Hero. I don't think we'll ever see that in a movie or cartoon. I liked him as a villain too but I also liked him as an Anti Hero. Also no trolling. If someone here doesn't like Venom just let them not like him. Don't turn this topic into an argument. _________________ "Helpful. Cooperative. Stupid. That's my boys." Frank Castle (a.k.a. I only know the Eddie Brock Venom as a villain as I never read any of his own titles where he was the Lethal Protector or anti-hero as you call him. Of course, he was on the good guys side during Maximum Carnage, which may be my all time least favorite storyline. There are others that may be worse but none with the double whammy of being so incredibly bad and so incredibly long. When he debuted, he had a decent enough look about him, but his dialogue (how many times has he declared he'll "suck your brains") and motivation, seemed quite lame to me. The only Venom storyline I liked, that I can currently remember, was when he and Spidey went mano a mano on a deserted island and S-M faked his death so Brock would leave him alone. The rest of the Brock-Venom as villain stories, I thought, ranged from dull to horrendous.
Although I found his origin as Anti-Venom to be uneven and somewhat illogical, I can see some potential in Brock now, assuming they play up the redemption angle.
So, given the choices in the poll, I guess I have to go with hate. _________________ It's never too late to have a happy childhood! |

I admit that I like pretty much every villain. I like Kingpin, Doc Ock (Though I hate how they did him in the movie), Green Goblin Harry and Norman (except I don't like how they made Norman into a great big jerk who is unsympathetic), Scorpion (not as Venom though), Shocker, Mysterio, Hob Goblin, etc. My Least favorite villain would be Sand Man. I never liked him very much. And I will never understand how he could be Sam Rami's favorite villain. I mean, how can you compare him to Green Goblin or Doc Ock? _________________ "Helpful. I like the Eddie Brock Venom quite a bit, but I know that he's disliked by a lot of comics fans as a shallow character that evokes the worst excesses of 1990s comics.
My affection comes from the fact that I really enjoyed the Todd McFarlane run on Amazing Spider-Man which included the Venom origin from issue #300 and a couple of subsequent Venom stories.
I don't think that the character has been used particularly well since, but I quite enjoyed those earlier stories. |
