Finally.
That's all I have to say. I'm looking forward to this issue. |

Seems like the "King of Hell's Kitchen" is back, too, not just Kingpin. |

Oh snap!
I think the coldness in the Kingpin makes this look like it is going to be a good one. I also love the new Josie's bar |

From what I've seen of the preview, they've apparently went back to what works for DD. Plus the art is awesome as always |

I'm gutted that this is Brubaker's last arc, because it's started off very strongly indeed. Can't wait to see where this goes. |

In my opinion, this issue is a decent enough set up. It wasn't great, but I enjoyed it. I had really hoped for a lot more. "Anticlimactic" seems to be the best word for it really. Dave's review was pretty much spot on with my own thoughts. |

Thanks!
It wasn't a bad issue, but it felt like it was very much an opening chapter, establishing the current status quo before shaking things up at the very end. I'm still hopeful for the rest of the arc, though. |

I would even go as far as saying I found the issue boring, which surprises me because of the many different scenes involved. Actually, come to think of it, I think the problem for me was that it seemed completely disjointed, like we're just checking in on different people. I also don't get the scene with Dakota and Perkins. Completely unnecessary. She could have just mentioned that instead of having two and half pages of valuable panel time spent on it. There were some really nice things about this issue and I love the Kingpin's sentiment when he says he doesn't plan on surviving, but the issue seems padded. I'm all for great character scenes (in fact, I prefer them to action scenes every day of the week), but as a whole, I just wasn't feeling it this issue.
One thing I find problematic about the whole Lady Bullseye/Return of the Kingpin mega-arc is this: Why does Lady B want Matt dead - or "crushed" - because he didn't accept her offer? And if she does want him dead, why didn't she just kill him herself? The fallout of issue #115 was very illogical to me, and the ghost of all of that is still haunting this arc. Maybe this will be resolved, but right now I feel like I'm missing something.
@Dave: One question... What else are you reading? I find myself agreeing with your reviews 19 times out of 20, and that goes for other comics as well, so I'm just wondering what you would recommend. _________________ The Other Murdock Papers |

I'm flattered that you'd ask for my opinion!
Off the top of my head, current stuff I'm following and enjoying includes Marvel's Invincible Iron Man, Immortal Iron Fist and Fantastic Four (I must have a thing for alliterative titles!), as well as DD of course. Brubaker's Criminal and Incognito are both decent, and Millar's "Old Man Logan" arc running in Wolverine has been fun. Astonishing X-Men is usually worth a look when it comes out, too. I'm not a big fan of most of the "Dark Reign" stuff though (Secret Invasion finally killed my interest in Bendis' Avengers books).
From DC, I tend to follow occasional projects. I've loved Grant Morrison's Batman run so far, and his Final Crisis was great, as was his All-Star Superman. Geoff Johns' Green Lantern and Superman work was... ok, but I've got a little bored of it now. And I still buy every issue of Ex Machina, which is still pretty good.
Other stuff: I've enjoyed Warren Ellis' Avatar work, especially Black Summer and No Hero, and his Fell from Image is pretty great when it comes out (which is virtually never).
And I'm also working my way through some older collections: Morrison's Doom Patrol and Invisibles, Gaiman's Sandman (the Absolute editions are beautiful) and John Byrne's run on Fantastic Four are all competing for my attention at the moment.
That's probably a lot more than you wanted to know! |

Thanks, Dave! It's actually pretty funny, but I got the first trade of Invincible Iron Man and really liked it. (From what I've seen of what comes next, I'm a little hesitant about the Pepper Potts make-over though). I also read lots of the early issues of Astonishing X-men on Marvel Digital Unlimited and really liked those too, but haven't checked out anything recent. I might do that. I've periodically kept up with the Bendis Avengers books, but I honestly can't stand him these days. He was a master of dialogue on DD, but now it's just annoying. I'll be sure to take a look at the other items on your list. Thanks for taking the time to share! _________________ The Other Murdock Papers |

I was a bit surpised to see Turk as Kingpin's right-hand... But then I chuckled when Fisk said that it would be so until he found a proper replacement... I like to see these touches of humour in "Wheelie".
On the other hand, I'm expectant about what comes next: Kingpin talks of the whole thing as a do or die deed, which kind of gives an epic perspective of the character: he may be a king of criminals, but a king after all _________________ Gloria

No worries!
And I agree with you about Bendis. What works in a street-level crime book doesn't necessarily work in a large-scale epic team book - but he doesn't seem to be able to adapt his style very easily. |
