Dave had posted this info last night, but I had deleted it because it quickly became apparent it wasn't supposed to be released... but it looks like other sites picked up on the info and the rumour is out there now.

So I'll post it here on the board, but not in NEWS, because it isn't official.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is real, but it if is I'm guessing the switch would happen something like a year from now. I'm a hardcore Bru on DD fan, but I'm more than willing to keep an open mind if these rumors are, in fact, true. It's a little shocking though.

I don't really think that's shocking. Thirty-plus issues on a book is a very solid run for any comic writer. Frank Miller wrote in total thirty issues of Daredevil. Nocenti and Bendis are the two writers with the longest run on the character, and those runs were unusually long.

It's not shocking, in and of itself, that a writer leaves after what has, as you say, been a very long run. However, there is an Omnibus coming out containing issues 82-105 (if it had been known at that point that Brubaker was going to leave the book with issue #120 or something, not waiting to include them seems strange), and a general feeling that Bru had at least a year left on the book in terms of what stories he's been plotting.

Rucka mentioned that Bru had a year and a half worth of stories plotted after their arc which ended with #109, keeping the writer committed to the book until around issue #130. I can understand if Bru's schedule is filling up quickly, but this information does sort of run contrary to at least my feeling that he had something planned for DD that lay further ahead than just the current arc or even the next one. He's suggested as much himself in relatively recent interviews. We'll see what happens.

This rumour caused me to purchase Rules of Engagement, Diggle's run on Batman Confidential. So far it's pretty good. I can see him writing some quality hard-boiled Daredevil tales.

Looks like it's official now.

From this week's Cup O' Joe:

Quote:
Yeah, I gotta ’fess up to that one. That one was my bad. That’s what happens when I have a lot of plates spinning around. I thought for whatever reason that we had already announced itthat one, but I guess we hadn’t--. Andy starts this fall with a renumbered Daredevil #501.

So the book is being renumbered too, as a lot of people expected.

Lots more DD-based info at the link.

Wow, I'm just stunned that this is happening so soon... The renumbering is great, and I've heard great things about Diggle, but I feel like I needed more time to get used to the idea. So what month are we on now? DD118 comes out in April, there's no DD in May, then 119 in June, issue 500 in July and I guess 501 in August? Is that the schedule or will there be other holes in it? Do we have any idea who the new artist is going to be or is Lark staying on? As far as I've heard, he doesn't have any other major projects planned so at least it would make for a smooth transition if we get to keep him for a while.

Yes, it seems very sudden. From the way Brubaker had talked in the past, it sounded like he had plans for the book way past #500.

Quesada sort of implies that he just has too much on his plate at the moment (I guess he has his live-action project to deal with, as well as his comics work) and that him leaving DD is a casualty of that. A shame, as I prefer his work on DD to his work on Captain America (which everyone seems to rave about).

Oh yeah, I totally get that feeling too, and much of what Bru has taken on has been announced in the last few months so I can see how he would have suddenly felt overwhelmed even though his initial plan was most likely to stay on the book much longer. All in all, I feel much more okay about all of this than I would have thought since I've sort of been dreading the day I'd have to see Bru go.

Like it has been said here, I expected that Brubakers statements about his having plots for the character led me to to think that I would still have about a couple of years of Bru's stories ahead in DD... So this bit of news is really... ouch, ouch ouch OUCH!

Can't talk, I just ache all over.

One would like to think that maybe the next writer will listen to whatever further ideas Brubaker has for potential DD plots, and hopefully, Michael Lark will remain in the series... Honest, I don't want to make a negative comment on Mike Deodato's art... It's just that I wouldn't like a "Thunderbolts" look on DD.

I can't believe Brubaker is leaving DD. Why can't he leave a different book lol. but um....I've read some of diggle's work from Hellblazer and I enjoyed it. However Hellblazer is vertigo and that's a mature book so idk how he's going to approach DD. I hope it will be street level and gritty material like DD should be.

I think that DD is a pretty mature book too, even though it isn't published under a special imprint (although it did used to be a "Marvel Knights" title for a while).

yeah, I always felt that DD was a mature book. It seems to fall along the lines of a MAX comic imo.

I thought MK was just a way to relaunch some key characters with new creative teams to see if they could avoid cancellation?

It was a relaunch, but I think it was also a consciously "mature" imprint.
