Here's semi-final group #1... the covers for #95 and #106...

The poll will run for 7 days... _________________ Kuljit Mithra

I voted for #106, just like before, since it's one of my all-time favorites. And since imitation is the greatest form of flattery (though I've posted this before)...

Both covers are really good, and I particularly like #106. However, it is specific of a particular moment of the story, while #95 is more descriptive of DD in general. My vote, therefore, goes to #95. |

I'm amazed how close this round is. I already did my little speech about how great the cover for 95 is. So instead of repeating myself I'll just bash 106. The cover for 106 sucks because:
1. It has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. What's happening? Oh. Daredevil is sad. I get it. He's sad because he's in the rain!
2. Sad/emotional does not equal good. It's an age old problem but it's completely ridiculous that all the movies that win best picture are dramas. For some bizarre reason I feel like people equate sadness or emotion with artisticness. All someone has to do is act sad and everyone falls over in awe. That's what I think is going on with this cover. It's not a particularly good shot. It's cliche beyond belief (superhero with his mask off in the rain?). It's not representative of DD (it could be any other superhero). But, look! He's sad.
3. 50 did it better. I love the cover for vol. 2 #50. It's Daredevil, unmasked and worn out sitting on his new throne. It conveyes a complex set of emotions with Daredevil tired and beaten and yet still looking powerful (which, in my opinion is what DD is all about). 106 is just him being whiney.
4. 95 did it better than 1. Okay, so I'll defend #95 a bit. When I think of DD I think of him in the air soaring above his city. Many artists have given us their take on that classic pose. In my opinion, the cover of 95 is the best example of the classic theme.
At the end of the day it's about the poster I'd want to have on my wall. I think I could proudly point at a poster of 95 and say "that's DD" and whoever else was looking at it would kinda get it. Imagine doing the same with 106. "That's DD" - "oh, so he's a whiney, cliched, sad 'hero'?". _________________ JC

Is this another round of JC explaining to people why they have their particular opinions?
One of the main things I like about #106 is that I like how it's drawn. While I like most of Djurdjevic's covers, I often find a little bit of something about them that looks lop-sided or off. The Heinrich Himmler depiction of Matt on the cover of #107 is a perfect example. It's just not esthetically appealing to me. I kind of have the same problem with #95 actually. It looks a little off, like I can't immediately make sense of it when I look at it. In that sense, #106 is less subtle in that it communicates emotion instantly and you don't have to think too much about it. In this case, the emotion is sadness, but that's beside the point.
I will agree with you on #50 being a better cover though. #50 is hot. As a straight woman, I will openly admit that #50 sort of makes me horny. It's also a nearly perfect piece of art. _________________ The Other Murdock Papers |

No, this is another round of me expressing my opinion:

I know it's hard to let other people express their opinions when they differ from yours but it's a message board....so.....you know. _________________ JC

I went with #106. What can I say? I just fell in awe with it. Daredevil seems so sad in the rain. With that kind of sledgehamming sadness/emotion, well, that means it has to be good.
With a little rain, I may have voted for #95. Oh, well. _________________ rgj |

I would go for the #106 cover for "Sympathy...". DD upside down has been done how many times now? _________________ "I'm only a DEVIL to those who are demonic." |
