My interest level with this arc has been kind of low. I will still pick this up even while I am on vacation, but I am not near as obsessed with what's next as I was with previous stories. |

I really like that Diggle is fleshing out the story of The Hand. They have been pretty much faceless ninjas for the most of their 40 year history, but we are finally learning about their inter-workings and the men that are the leaders. It will make them a more interesting foe for DD in my opinion. |

I'm pretty sure I already posted here.Don't know what happened to my post though...Anyway,505 was pretty good but not very exciting.I don't expect a random issue to blow me away but I feel like DD is moving a little slow. _________________ kakkate kina.. |

Only time for a quick post I'm afraid.
In all DD #505 was better than I anticipated.
The guest artist (name escapes me at the moment... and even if I tried I'm sure I would misspell it; either do it right or don't do it at all) had (rather disjointed) work in DD #503, I believe, which in contrast to De La Torre's work in that same issue were, I feel, a stark and jarring styles, be it character depictions and portrayal of atmosphere. But here, the guest artist had been given an entire issue to work and it holds up better than I thought it might going in, based on my discrepencies of DD #503.
That said, Matt Hollingsworth continues to "hit it out of the ballpark". Great work as usual! Regardless of artist, Matt continues to bring out the best in the artwork.
The writing was much, much more cohesive than the previous arc. This may have something to do with the co-writer (again, that name escapes me... something-Johnson, hmmm. Anthony Johnson I think), or it may not. The point is, the writing and storytelling is much more deliberate and tight.
I anticipated, with the sudden revolving door with guest creators on this arc, this issue and this arc would slip a bit despite the promise of the story concept. I am glad I was proven wrong. |

Does anyone else have the feeling this arc may nothing more than filler when it concludes four months from now? And now with news that Johnston will be continue his co-creator stint for another few issues after the currect arc ends, may progressive, meaningful stories not be seen until the regular creative team returns?
Oh, and my thoughts one this issue? It was good enough but the lingering feeling that it'll amount to naught is very hard to set aside since the focus was noticeably shifted off Matt to Bakuto and there was nothing about the happenings back in NY with BT and the development of Shadowland or even the Kingpins latest mechinations. Perhpaps next issue will address these things but if I am right and this arc is meant to simply burn time until Shadowland begins and de le Tora returns, we we won't see anything of the aforemention until maybe the end of the third issue.
The art was surprisingly excellent, but de le Torre is as sorely missed as Matts inner diagolue. As good Checetto's artistry was in thie issue, it still asin copariosn to what for me had the been the main draw since Diggle took the reign from the Brubaker, de la Tore. The absence of Matts inner monoluge is atrting to wear on teh quality of the serie for me. Without those thought little boxes sharing insights into Matts mind there's an uneasy feel of disconnection from the character. It's hard to really sympathize and uderstand what he's going through when we his thoughts are walled off from the audience. In anycase, this issue was entertained and compelled me experience it more than once, but as a whole I'd to spend any more money on it if little more than forgettable in the big picture of things. Oh, and the diague was the not the best at time. "Watch it, buster!" I almost cringed when I saw Angela say that.

I can't deny, I thought the same thing when I read this issue. It already feels like a side-story that probably won't have a huge impact on the central plot.
Having said that, Diggle hasn't exactly had very long to make his mark on the book, so by the time Johnston's second arc wraps up we will have actually had more of the co-written issues than of Diggle's solo issues. |

Here's a question I've been meaning to ask for a while? If everyone at the summit already know Matt is DD, why did he bother suiting up to visit Bakuto? Couldn't he have just gone over in the very suave attire he arrived in?

He was sneaking because he didn't want to shame Bakuto by making him back down in public. And if the other leaders saw him going into the room they would want to attend.
He was probably in his Daredevil attire to blend in better since the ninjas all dress in red with horns now. Or of course to present himself as a warrior. |
