After a brief discussion on Twitter with Darediva I decided to make a topic for this. Sorry if it already exists.

In my ongoing quest to read all of Daredevil I have reached what is probably my most favorite cover ever(That I can remember).

It is Daredevil #212


I was promptly asked why, and after thinking about it for a little while I can come up with quite a lot to like about it.

For one thing it is from the era where the cover to books was almost always as much a part of the story as any other page. It is the summation of all that lies within, and 212 captures it perfectly.

Daredevil is working for the Kingpin.

Daredevil is the Kingpin's lieutenant like Elektra or Bullseye Daredevil has become a symbol of the Kingpin's dominance of New York. It doesn't matter why he is there. He's there. knocking down whoever the Kingpin points him at.

I am surprised that no other superheroes showed up during this storyline to confront DD. He isn't robbing people but by working with the Kingpin he is condoning anything he is doing by not stopping them. But that is all just supposition.

With his arm draped around DD's shoulders Kingpin is welcoming Daredevil into the family and Daredevil isn't fighting back.

This topic comes around in different forms on occasion. I'd like to say why I appreciate the covers of certain issues. Thanks for starting the thread, Minion!

This one is a long shot for you if you might be guessing. It's issue #359 with "The Long Night" on the cover, but actually titled "The Devil You Know".



Why? I always liked Cary Nord's art in DD. He, along with Matt Ryan on inks and Ian Laughlin on colors, conveyed a unique style to the Daredevil of that period, and the clean lines and deep shadows really worked.

I don't know why Karen Page has hazel eyes on the cover, when she has blue inside, but even that doesn't bother me. Maybe it was an artistic decision to keep from competing with the blue in the logo and the date box at the top?

Overall, the larger story within (Karen's new job, and how the first night played out) weighs much heavier than the subplot on the cover, shown with DD and the car chase in much lighter line and color.

I really liked the story inside, too. It's Daredevil Lite to most people. I love the opening scene, where Foggy finds Matt still in the office in the pitch dark, and Matt gets a one-liner off about the boss. I love DD commandeering the skateboard to street surf behind the speeding taxi. I love all the crackpots who call in to the latenight talk radio at WFSK to tell Paige Angel their theories about Daredevil. (The Sinatra-styled swinger with all the babes, making the deal with the devil when he got popped...ssssmokin!...makes me laugh everytime.) I love how Foggy comes up with a good story when Rosalind Sharpe puts him on the spot on the air. This issue is what I read when I am about to forget that Matt Murdock might have cracked a smile at some point in his life, like he does after the conversation with Karen on the air, as "Mike from the Bronx".

This was an issue where the cover was good, and the story certainly went along with it.

Definitely Daredevil #506 comes to mind. Such a truly majestic and awesome cover. It reminds me of the album cover for Pinkerton by Weezer.

Aside from that, Daredevil #187 always stands out. It's the first Daredevil comic I read and the cover was what drew me in.

Daredevil #232 is just epic, any way you slice it.

Lastly...hmm. Daredevil #319, the Fall from Grace Prologue. The stark black and white image of the Chrysler building, the pure white background and the tiny red shape of Daredevil plummeting just makes it so amazing.
