Been reading Frank Miller's DD for the first time and I get why people would not buy for one second that Matt Murdock is Daredevil. Even though it is accepted that Matt Murdock is protected by Daredevil. That Matt Murdock is the goto guy if you need to contact Daredevil.
Its not that he is blind.
It is because as Daredevil will go out and capture a drug dealer and Matt Murdock will defend the drug dealer for the crime Daredevil apprehended him for.
It doesn't matter what crimes you are guilty of. If you are innocent of the crime you are accused of Matt Murdock will defend you if you have the money.

Things changed in Bendis's run obviously, but back in the day DD had the best disguise. Who would think a blind man could be any superhero, let alone Daredevil?

Which part do you mean?
The specific issue I am talking about is 183 where Daredevil takes in a drug dealer named Hogman for murder and then defends him as Matt Murdock and gets the charges dropped. THEN after he finds out that Hogman has a pacemaker Daredevil brings him in AGAIN.
I am guessing it isn't really about the money but Matt Murdock is obsessed with finding the right person for the right crime. Even if they are untouchable for all of their other crimes Matt will get them off if they are innocent of the crime for which they are accused.
