Here's a first look preview (no dialogue) of DAREDEVIL #508, which ships next month. Check out Roberto De La Torre's version of the new costume!

New costume or new character?!? I have followed DD for years. This current story is excellent and I am looking forward to Shadowland but I am nervous. I have absolutely no idea where Diggle is taking DD and I fear for him (not Diggle). The character has become so complex now that I have started to miss the old simplicity of the Stan Lee stories. This is not to diss the story or writer. Quite the opposite. I just really want to see DD and MM come out of this ok. But I am nervous!

Thank goodness de la Tore is back! Those pages look maginificent, as expected. Still, though, even his artistry can't can't save that awful new suit. The Shadowland event hasn't even started yet and I miss the red suit already. Sad

As much as I am enjoying all of this, I feel the same anxiousness you do. Also great to see De La Torre back.

Frankly, I have grown weary of all of this turmoil and angst. Matt's life has been in a tumultuous state for upwards of a decade now. If Marvel wants to retain its readers, it is of the utmost importance that they get back to basics. No more mental breakdowns, identity crises, conflicts with kith and kin, etc. Matthew Michael Murdock is an attorney and a crime fighter - he is not a self-absorbed, forlorn, wreched man. Matt is a champion of justice in both his guises, and it is time he returned to his roots. Too many writers have used this comic as a vehicle for their own (ill-conceived) stories. Enough nonsense. For too long, this comic has been about Matt Murdock's psychological woes. Now, it is time to focus on Matt Murdock's mission.

There has been some discussion of Marco Checcetto's work (both pro and con). I felt his cameo appearance as artist on DD# 503 left a LOT to be desired. His work was so jarring when stacking to the atmospheric work of De la Torre... even Matt Hollingsworth's phenomenal coloring couldn't save it.

That being said, Checcetto hit his artistic stride in the recent DD# 507. It was, far and away, the best work of his short run on this title.

But De la Torre's work on this title, by and large (and within the looking glass of this preview for DD# 508), is simply dynamic... and dare I say it, breathtaking. His work has a victorian sensability to it that, I feel, is reminiscent of Jae Lee's work, but still carries the grittiness of Alex Maleev and Michael Lark.

The problem now is that such lush art takes time... and De la Torre, for better or for worse, appears to have deadline difficulties. If his work continues to be this good, I for one am willing to hang with him. (*ahem* The same can be said about the highly touted "End of Days" mini series, but I digress). There is sometimes a price for great, great art.

If we are to wait for more quality work by De la Torre, and if Checcetto can pound out the same intense artwork he mustered in DD# 507, then that will be much more than okay.

Would I have said that two months ago? No, certainly not, but Marco Checcetto had convinced me otherwise.

Case in point, the artistic chores on the Daredevil title is in very capable hands. Kudos!

Sorry.

I'll throw this out there...

Why is DD's billy club holster on the wrong leg?
Mistake, or... it's not Matt in the costume?

DD normally wears it on the right leg, right? So it's only the cover's red costume, not the interior's blue costume, that raises any doubt. Maybe he has been pushed so far over the edge that he is now like Typhoid Mary. An equal dexterity could occur when another personality takes over. Or maybe it's Bullseye in the costume beating on Matt. If Bullseye took his costume maybe Aunt May had to make him a new one. Or Martha Kent. Or maybe it's a mistake.

Normally he wears it on his left leg, so the cover is correct.

It's on his right leg in 507. Maybe it's Ben Affleck. He wore it on the right.

Ha, imagine it really was Ben Affleck in the new costume? Just in time for a Daredevil reboot!

It changes sides in 501. Starts on his left when the Hand bring in Master Izo then switches to the right 'somewhere beneath New York City'. My wife has no interest in DD but even she thinks it must be important!

Perfect timing.

I've watched people debate over which leg DD wears his holster on for a long time. The toy manufacturers don't agree either. Most of the time it's on the left, but a couple of recent toys have had it on the right.

I go for on the left. Maybe someone flipped some art for composition's sake in some of these issues. It's happened before!

I'm beginning to like the new costume design. Bringing in colors not seen since the armor costume, which I liked.
