The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

It's being reported that Gene Colan has died.

Obviously, most people here will know him best for his Daredevil work, but he also had well-loved runs on Doctor Strange, Iron Man and Howard the Duck (as well as his Marvel horror books, of course) - and was even working until fairly recently, contributing to Brubaker's Captain America.

He'll be missed.

DD #53 (vol.1)

"As It Was In The Beginning..."

My most preferred (re)telling of Daredevil's origin. Beautiful cover, beautiful pages. Thank you for all your works Mr. Colan.

C.

His recent work in Daredevil Volume 2 #100 was awesome!

Wally Wood may have ushered in the red suit, but Colan's use of shadow and ability to draw motion defined Daredevil's look for the ages. Rest in peace.

Daredevil would never have been the same without M. Colan.

Mr. Colan took us on a long ride with DD, with grace and charm. His interview on the extras dvd of the movie is now the way most will remember him. Rest in peace, kind sir.

I've lost count of the amount of titles I've read over the years that we're graced with this guy's art. He somehow managed to combine the dynamic with the introspective, and its a style that was all his own. I loved his stuff on Tomb of Dracula, Doc Strange, even Howard the Duck, but its his DD stuff that stands out a mile, and for a certain generation he will always be THE DD artist.

Gene mentioned in his interview of the Men Without Fear doc his regret at missing out on things in life, such as not spending more time with his family, due to the long hours spent in front of the drawing board. Although no solice to those family members who survive him, I'm just one of many who I'd like to think have come to be an 'extended family' of fans and readers worldwide who have appreciated all that effort and endevour over the years.

RIP Gene, and thanks for everything.

A great loss for the comic universe.
I really enjoyed his work on DD.
My thoughts to his family and friends.
