The Message Board is currently in read-only mode, as the software is now out of date. Several features and pages have been removed. If/When I get time I intend to re-launch the board with updated software.

|
|
In general Daredevil doesn't get involved in crossover events, usually when there is a big Marvel crossover event, the Daredevil titles are unaffected. For a while, some people were interested in Daredevil being involved in a street level hero crossover, but then Shadowland came along and that didn't meet expectations to say the least. So should DD stay out of these Marvel events or should he get involved, now and again? If there is another crossover with just the street level heroes, should DD be involved? |

To be honest ? It all depend on how he will be used.
If it's like "civil war", then why not, I liked it.
If he is used like in "shadowland"... No, thanks...
I think Matt can do well in big events, but not if he is the main protagonist. He can have a big role, but not be the driving force of the story (like in "Shadowland")
Shadowland tried so hard to make him a "big gun" in a city with cosmic level powered entity that the result was very forced and out of character.
But, like I said, he was well used and had a big role in "civil war", so my answer is... Why not |

Well the thing is I think they could have made a good crossover that featured mostly street level characters centered around DD, if the story was a bit more down to Earth and didn't involve DD getting possessed by a demon and becoming a "the ends justify the means" type of villain.
I think a more straight forward story, where say a mysterious new crime boss is trying to take over the underworld and he has hired some of the most dangerous street level villains around to help him, with DD and the other street level heroes trying to stop him, that could be a fun crossover with DD at the center of things. DD getting involved in a street level cross over could have been interesting, but Shadowland just wasn't a good story, it wasn't a good vehicle for DD. |

(lets try and not dwell on how bad SL was as an event) One main reason Shadowland failed as a marvel event was as we all are well aware: it shouldn't have been an event. Take out all the heroes and it would've worked and would have been more fleshed out as a psychological episode instead of a possession piece. Whatever, Waid helped me move on so no more Shadowland talk for me.
Events in general with DD: never make him the focus. Daredevil like batman only works when you can see into his head if not he should be seen and not heard (rarely speaks but with purpose). if you cannot use that tool because there are other A-listers around (that some writers possibly care about respectfully writing more) then do not make him the focus for an event.
Like mentioned above the civil war moment in the Negative zone between Matt and Stark was powerful because it was VERY brief, religious, memorable and when the lawyer is the one to go against the law and tell you the system betrayed it's own civil servants you know it's going to mean something to the book.
Moments like that in events where DD can be used effectively in small doses, just my two cents. |

You are right.
In my opinion Shadowland could worked without so many heroes.
Simplifying: Too many characters=poor characterization+bad story.
There are too many comics where some heroes are there only to take atention (spiderman in avengers), without nothing interesting to say or do.
Conclusion, generally prefer DD far away from events. |

Well it looks like they are doing a major cross over that involves Daredevil:
http://www.manwithoutfear.com/daredevil-news/#2012-12-01-The-Omega-Effect-Punisher-Spider-Man-Daredevil-crossover
I think this will work better then Shadowland, because its more of an general adventure story rather then some personal story with DD, so it will work better as a crossover. Plus Rucka and Waid are better writers then Diggle. I think DD could work well in a crossover like this. |
