Sorry guys, these questions have probably answered before, but seeing as how we're so close to the release, I just wanted a few things cleared up.
1. In the CBR interview, Bendis and Mack reveal that the story takes place in the near future. So is this story canon?
2. Will the story eventually be collected in a tpb or is that unlikley for these types of mini-series?
3. Is anyone else slightly pensive about Matt's so-called "biggest secret"? I trust the writers completley, but I hope we aren't hit with some odd revelation that doesn't make sense, in relation to Matt's history.
4. Finally, just out of curiousity, does anyone know if Miller was approached for the story too?
Thanks everyone. |

As far as I know this story takes place in the future like "Wolverine : the end" did. So it makes it the final DD story while the regular title marches on.
They will most likely put out a trade. A story this big will make them money especially since Bendis is on it. So why not?
We won't know until it is printed and in are little hand. I am not going to worry about it because it is Bendis. He has never let me down yet.
Miller is so out of the loop at this point it would make no difference. His drawing now a days isn't what it was and his story telling is no where near as good as the 70's. So move on and let the man be. He did his share of great comic book moments. This one isn't going to be his. It is Bendis's time to shine again!
And yes I am a Bendis fan. So sue me. HA |

In a few years this story probably won't mean much.I don't like the dea of DD dying either so i'll treat this as a what if story. |

This story is supposed to be cannon, but only in Bendis's wee deluded head! It's stupid to consider it cannon when it's set in near future and everything is still moving forward.
I have said before I think this is a terrible idea.
Only thing that could save it in my eyes is a happy ending for Matt, akin to the ending from Dark Knight Rising, but they seem so intent on killing him that I don't think that will happen. _________________ when walking just walk, when sitting just sit, above all don't wobble. |

It's a bit far afield but remember when Bendis went on and on about the Ultimate Spider-Man game for X-Box being canon when he was writing it? And then it wasn't because HE ignored it while writing Ultimate Spider-Man? I enjoyed Bendis' run on DD but he has a way of talking things up.
End of days will not be canon in the long run. _________________ JC

As I recall, when I first heard about this story, they said it was going to be canon. But when Mack was asked of the canonicity of the story on his facebook recently, he said they were approaching it as canon. A subtle difference, but a difference no less.
Most likely they're just using the canon issue to generate a buzz. Or perhaps their collective ego is really that big. It doesn’t really matter. No writer worth a damn or in their right mind will treat it as canon. A good writer will see this for what it is, a fun “what if,” and write what they were going to write anyway.
Of course, a less talented writer might try and connect it to canon with their future stories, like Chichester did with Elektra: Assassin and Fall From Grace. That’s the only thing that really worries me about the whole thing. These “End of Days” stories are fun but implying the story is canon, even to create a buzz, can create problems. |
