Here's what I think about the preview, and the story so far in general. I like Waid's DD way better than the much celebrated Brubaker DD.
Why? Because Brubaker's DD was always three steps behind the current villain, never had the clue, never attempted seriously to have one and the plot pretty much was piled up on him without him being able to do anything.
Waid's DD, despite being the target of a master plan, is able to play his cards, to counter, to effectively plan counter-moves. He's a much more proactive character and seems a more effective hero. |

Honestly, the issue is just one of the best I have read in years. It's a great conclusion to the first part of Mark Waid run. This time, Matt react. He's not just the puppet driven half mad by the evil mastermind of the day, he's the fearless Daredevil (like Foggy said it), the Superhero with a big "S".
And what is even better is that it's not due to his villians being less dangerous or threatening since the Bendis / Brubaker years, it's Matt that " raised the bar " as a hero.
That being said, I'm really curious to know where Mark Waid will take Bullseye after the issue. If he bring us back the fighting Bullseye later, Bullseye may finally become more of an "evil version of Daredevil" than ever (I won't explain why if you haven't seen the issue) |

A very good issue. If I have any criticisms, they're very nit-picky. For instance...
The room full of barrels seemed very conveniently placed.
The last splash page. Is that something Daredevil's billy club can now do? It's not Mockingbird's staff. It's Daredevil's billy club. Maybe we need one of those old school two page "All about Daredevil's billy club" features again. |

I agree, it's good to see DD is not just letting everything happen around him. He's doing something about it first. _________________ Kuljit Mithra

I agree. As much as I adore Brubaker's writing in general, I was very uncomfortable watching Daredevil watching the Wrecking Crew wreak havoc and doing nothing about it. |

I really wish Bullseye wasn't brought back. |

I was bummed to see Bulleye brought back at first, but it was explained well enough to make it plausible(in the Marvel Universe anyway). I'm already curious how he's going to come back again and what kind of affect the radioactive goo had on him. I'll be excited when Ikari resurfaces again.
Like most of you, I do like that Matt was thinking ahead instead of being a step behind. The twist in the story was a lot of fun, but I expected a bigger battle with Ikari. Things wrapped up kind of quickly - are the $2.99 issues shorter? Most of volume 2 was about Matt's reaction the death of Karen Page. I always think of him as PTSD-Daredevil during that time. Mark Waid's Daredevil makes fun reading and I love the artwork - makes me want to see a Daredevil cartoon.
The worst part about this issue was that it took almost two weeks for it to arrive via my subscription, arg! |
