I am anxiously awaiting this new Spider-Man film. But I am also very, very aprehensive, too.

I have been very happy with both Spider-Man films (although, Spider-Man 2 was not only the better of the two it was, in my opinion the best superhero movie made to this point, and one of the better films using comic books as source material. Still, I am skiddish about using the Gwen Stacy character so late in the mythology. Then, there is rumor of numerous recent re-writes and re-shoots so late in the process (calling back the actors, actresses and crew to piece together better continuity in the film... ugh! That spells trouble).

Gwen Stacy, if done and portrayed well could add a very interesting dynamic to the film-mythology (granted it isn't as dramatic of a difference between the two mythologies of say the Superman films, Christopher Reeve or otherwise --can you say, "Superboy", Bryan Singer?--, but they do take creative liscence on certain details); which of course differs from the comic-mythology; case-in-point the "web-shooter" detail as one example, for instance. Gwen Stacy was there, in college, as Peter Parker's aquaintence with Mary Jane grew and created an internal struggle for Peter to decide upon the two women in his life, until fate decided it for him. The reason that it may work in this film is that Peter will already be struggling internal struggles with the bonding of the alien symbiote, this other struggle of Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy may amplify that.... BUT it may come off as waaay over the top, just like having muliple villains, handled in a Batman-film franchise sort of way (which was already brought up). And the idea of adding Black Cat, rather than Gwen Stacy would convolute everything (and I am hoping it's not already convoluted already with all of these different themes and plots running together... besides you have Sandman and seemingly Venom, plus the added dynamic of Harry Obsborn's Green Gobln, then the under-current of Proffessor Connors and the possiblity of digging into the Lizard... granted all of these may not be brought out in this film, but there is still the possiblity to follow each of these points, to a larger or lesser extent. Having another "costume" in the film, I feel, would really put it over the top. So, with that, I feel the non-costumed Gwen Stacy makes sense). The key, I feel, to pulling this whole thing off is "character development". Given the previous two Spider-Man films, I have been more or less, very happy with the character devlopment. But now, with this third film, you are running the risk of having too many characters and the apt "screen time" to properly develop each character and each plot line. But there definately appears to be a huge task of juggling everything.

I'm looking forward to it, but like I said before (*sigh*), I'm really apprehensive.

Sorry I blew up like that. Back to what we were talking about.
I've heard that Green Goblin 2 (Harry) is going to help Spider-Man beat Sandman and Venom. That sounds kind of silly though. Of course I heard this from a guy on another message board.
