Maybe I missed a memo but I assume no one has heard plans for a hardcover of Brubaker's first year on DD. Why?! Under Brubaker's pen the quality and sales of the book have been equal-to-far-better than under Bendis. And hardcovers of Bendis's work flew off the printers. Heck, a DD: Father hardcover was announced even before the final issue of Joe Q's long delayed mini was released. So, when are we going to hear about a hardcover of Brubaker's first year?

An excellent question as they have solicited 2 tpbs (with a 3rd listed online) thus far collecting the goodness that is Brubaker and Lark's DD...

Candidly, I'd say this is all about a HUGE pro-Bendis bias at Marvel, including the marketing departments. I doubt Marvel has any reason to believe that Brubaker's 1st DD hardcover would sell any fewer copies than Bendis's last DD hardcover. Furthermore, I'd doubt that the DD:Father hardcover will/would sell more copies than a Brubaker DD hardcover.

I'd guess empty politics is the primary reason we still haven't seen a Brubaker DD hardcover.

You might be on to something, Forrest. I still enjoy Bendis' work more often than not, but it sure seems like he has become assistant EIC. I believe I can see his influence in almost every corner of the MU. I can understand why Joey Q would be tempted to rely on such a talent, but the editors (at all levels) should edit and the writers should write.
Marvel has been squeezing every dime out of its customers for at least the last 5 years (it may be longer, I've only been back for 5 years), so it's certainly surprising that they wouldn't release what should be a big profit maker.
The thing is, I had the impression that Bendis and Bru were at least somewhat tight, so I wouldn't expect that to be the reason for no HC, unless there's now jealousy over all the accolades that Bru is now deservedly getting.
I guess time will tell.

I don't think that Bendis has anything to do with a Brubaker DD HC not being released. I just think that the reason Bendis got all those DD HCs and Brubaker has not is due to a pro-Bendis bias at Marvel, not any kind of anti-Brubaker bias and certainly not a difference in DD sales between the two writers.

If you consider Bru's other big Marvel book, Captain America has been getting the "premier edition" hc treatment under Bru's run. These are not oversized, but remain standard comic size. I guess this may of been an option for Bru's DD run, but they stuck to the tpb only. What is interesting to note, however, is that Bru's Captain America is receiving the oversized omnibus treatment for 1-25, plus two extra one-shot specials scheduled for the last quarter this year. It may be that Bru's DD work just might get the omnibus treatment when the time comes. I have given up hope on our hc volumes expanding in the current format.

Does anyone know if Marvel has updated any hardcover collection plans for Bru's run?

Hey Don,

Sorry man, no idea what or if there are any plans. I have been trying to stay on the lookout for news about this. There is nothing listed in the lastest Marvel Previews either. So, we're going into next year now. Sad

As much as I would love to see the format continue for these HC editions, I wouldn't mind seeing an omnibus collecting 25+ issues of Bru's DD run. We are already 20 issues into his run and it might be possible to see an omnibus solicited for next Spring. I simply cannot believe for one intance that Marvel would not collect Bru's DD in an oversized HC of some sort. This continued long wait is convincing me that an omnibus is more likely to happen.

On another note -

I wouldn't mind seeing a black, white, and red DD omnibus of the Bendis/Maleev run. But last I heard, Bendis said this was not going to happen (at least for now).

Neither would I Wink
In fact, I'd rather have no HC, if that means we might have a nice, big, fat Omnibus
