So apparently Bengal (of DD Vol. 1 #258 "fame") is going to be part of the Avengers: Initiative.

On one hand, I'm not the biggest fan of Marvel's new love of pulling out obscure 70s and 80s characters (Luke Cage, Iron First, Moon Knight, etc.). On the other hand...wow...Bengal has to be a new record in terms of obscure. Does anyone know if this guy ever appeared anywhere other than DD 258? In fact, I don't have the issue on hand but I have a vague, vague recollection fo Bengal actually dying in that issue. _________________ JC

Fabian Nicieza (who wrote that DD issue) used Bengal a few more times in New Warriors, and I think he was in that Marvel Knights series as well. _________________ Kuljit Mithra

Yeah, I read that, too and thought it was wild. I liked that guy and the whole Vietnam angle. I don't think he died, by the way. I think he just splits at the end. |

DD #258: That was a really great issue! ...I almost wish I didn't know that this character went on to become a part of the Initiative. ...oh well, at least Deathstalker hasn't come back as a Skrull, yet. _________________ "Flash is back. Worlds will die again!" |

I just hope they don't bring back NFL Superpro. And, I love football.
I thought that the Bengal was an okay character. Nice sais. It would have been okay had he become a part of the DD mythos. But, he's not going to entice me to read anything Avengers.
The problem with Marvel bringing back old characters is that Marvel has some really stupid ideas. Look what they did to Nocienti's Bushwacker. They turned him form an ex-government type, religious nut who hates mutants into . . . a mutant!! Wow!! His arm gun?? Turns out it's a mophin' appendage!! Bushy litterally swallows bullets and can shoot them out his armgun!!! Wow.
Oh, Marvel.

Don't forget Speedball.
Did anyone ever read Nuke's appearance in Wolverine: Origins?
On a positive note, I am quite looking forward to the return of another as-seen-in-DD character, Terror, Inc. I heard there is a new MAX title for this character but I don't know any other details. I loved the writing in Chichester's Terror, Inc. series. (The art could not have been much worse. Imagine the confusion of the Fall from Grace art mixed with the attention to detail seen in the average crayon drawing of a four year old. Oh yeah, and some high tech Commodore 64 computer art. ) Anyway, I love that character as is and I hope he doesn't return as part of the North Dakota Initiative. _________________ "Flash is back. Happily according to wiki, his arm is still cybernetic. There's only a passing reference to the Daredevil/Punisher - "opps, he's a mutant" thing. _________________ JC

Bengal was an alright character (I do remember that issue and liked it at the time but wow it has really been a long time, I was in high school then) but to bring him out of obscurity to join the Avengers? I don't know...
Marvel is kind of grasping these days it seems... _________________ "This isn't hell, but you can see it from here." -The Crow |

Maybe Squirrel Girl will be able to do something about it

... But a team-up with Dakota North could be interesting _________________ Gloria
