Yeah. Good point relating DD's potential position to such named luminaries as FF, Punisher and Wolverine/X-Men. That said, even examining the other names on the list to date, you've gotta believe DD's position and popularity has to be higher than such traditional second tier characters as J. Jonah Jameson at #48, Nick Fury at #29 and Hawkeye at #8 for goodness sakes!
So here's a question for the group: other than the traditional Captain America and Spidey, who you've gotta believe occupy two of the remaining four positions - who else would be left?
What's also interesting about the list is that I see no other DD cast member currently occupying a position. Is it possible that another DD cast member, say Kingpin, is in the top four?
MK, thanks for bringing the list to our attention.

Aw don't mention it. I actually wish I knew sooner. I would have liked to vote.
Anyway, It does kinda suck that there haven't been other DD characters on the list like the Kingpin, Elektra, etc (personally I would have liked to see Foggy on the list), however there are very few Spidey characters on the list too, except for Jameson and MJ (no Green Goblin, Venom, Doctor Octopus, or Aunt May lol).
Aside from shoo-ins like Spider-Man and Captain America the most 'prominent' characters that have yet to appear (or may not appear) include Professor X (who would be the only X-character in the top 5 if he makes it), Doctor Doom, Moon Kight, and Ghost Rider. _________________ Andrew |

The list has been updated today and Dr Doom ranked 4th.
I suppose DD will be 3rd, behind Cap and Spidey... (he would be first on my list, of course!) _________________ Visit the Red Shaker |

Don't give up, there are still three characters to go!
Still, how can we be so sure about the ones remaining?... Just imagine that people has voted Maggot, Amadeus Cho and Penance... I know...UGH! But then there is people who prefer American Pie to Ivan The Terrible _________________ Gloria

Daredevil in the top three? Well he had to have got more votes then Hawkeye (why's he number 8 ), Thanos and Nova because I don't even know who the hell Thanos and Nova are.
I'm guessing Captain America and Spider-man are 1 and 2 respectively, and DD is 3.
Is anyone else surprised (if) he's more popular then Wolverine, Hulk, Doom, Magneto, Iron man and the Thing?
Cheers! |

What if he doesn't make it to the top 3?
my prediction is:
#3 Professor X
#2 Spider-man
#1 Captain America
With our beloved DD remaining overlooked, underestimated and forgotten as always. |

How did this list come about? The results look a little wonky to me. The Thing at #5? Really? The Fastastic Four hasn't been a top seller in god knows how long. Is The Thing really that popular? The Beast at 16 is weird too. I love The Beast but is her really that individually popular? The fact that Thanos and She-Hulk round out the top 25 makes me doubt the accuracy/worth of the list. _________________ JC

I'm not surprised that DD is popular enough to be in the top 5 (assuming that he is), or that Iron Man didn't make the top 10. I am surprised Wolvie didn't make the top 5 though. I honestly thought he would. Also, Hawkeye in the top 10? That was surprising to me too.
There is nothing official about this list. It's just a sampling of opinion among comic book fans who read that blog, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the rankings. But it's fun anyway, in part because of the odd choices here and there.
P.S. I updated the list in my initial post to include today's result. _________________ Andrew |

The blogger casted a poll, people had to rank their 10 favorites, the first got ten points, the second nine and so.
There were more than 500 votes and points were added.
For me it's just a poll but what's also interesting is people backing up their choice for their personal number one...
One text I read about Iron Man reminded me why I liked the character, a long time ago... _________________ Visit the Red Shaker |

I updated my first post to show the full rankings now that it's over. DD came in at an impressive #3, and is one of only 3 Marvel character's to get over 1,000 points. Here's the link (including the latest comments): DD at #3 _________________ Andrew |

Here's a quote from the blogger's description of Daredevil:
"Matt was a basic superhero for many years, during which time he was notably involved with his secretary, Karen Page, and the superhero Black Widow (they even shared his comic for awhile, as Daredevil and Black Widow). Matt’s law partner, and best friend, was Foggy Nelson.
This all changed with the arrival of Frank Miller as the writer of the book."
Here's a quote from one of the voters:
"My favorite Daredevil stuff is of course Frank Miller’s legendary run..."
Still another quote:
"It’s hard to believe that up until the mid 1970’s, Daredevil was seen as a joke character a rip off of Spiderman. Anyone reading the first 100 or so issues would be hard pressed to ever have him as a favourite character..."
It's fascinating to me that the existing conventional wisdom stipulates that in order to demonstrate your credentials as a true Daredevil fan you must state that your "favourite DD stuff was "OF COURSE" Frank Miller's "lengardary run". And that DD was at best "a basic superhero" and at worst "a joke", before the arrival of Frank Miller. And that one voter's
As I've stated elsewhere regarding a review of DD #100, nothing could be further from the truth. Gene Colan's Black Widow period was about a marvelous, bygone era - a superhero stationed in hip San Francisco (not New York) and living in a non-married, sexually charged relationship drawn by an artist who is finally receiving his due as one of all time greatest in comicdom.
I hate it when people are so dismissivle and just plain stupid when it comes to DD's pre-Miller period.

BlackTiphoid,
I got hooked by Daredevil during the Miller run. One say s "Daredevil" and then "Miller" and it brings awesomely great memories... and then I get back my old issues for a while and enjoy them again.
But then I have enjoyed quite a lot of Dd stuff that came after Miller , and when I got reprints of the pre-Miller days, I got to like the stories as well... They are indeed different, and some of them, yes, a bit goofy (i.e. Mike Murdock as... Thor! LOL)... but by no means bad to me: they sort of bring the whole picture of the character to me: I love that Brubaker keeps this old stuff in mind when writing Daredevil.
I agree with you that Pre-Miller days shouldn't be dissed... Among other things because I love the stories by Roger MacKenzie just before Miller took the writing chores.
Roger McKenzie's work in DD is waay too underrated: His DD Vs. The Hulk issue was just GRAND... And he created Ben Urich! _________________ Gloria

Blacktyphoid, Gloria, I agree. I started reading some of the comments and found myself rolling my eyes more than once.
I find it weird that Daredevil could be considered a joke or irrelevant pre-Frank Miller, yet no one says that about the X-Men pre-Chris Claremont. X-Men was slated for cancellation and even ceased the monthly publication of new stories in favour of early Lee/Kirby reprints until the "All-new, All-different" revitalization in 1975. No one says that X-Men became a joke or irrelevant in the years leading up to that, yet some so-called comic fans are so willing to overlook DD's early history in that way. _________________ Andrew |
