I think that some of you might find this bit of news interesting.

Spanish blind people will be able to vote in Braille in the upcoming general elections for the first time.

The person who started it all is Mr. José Ángel Carrey, a Lawyer, born partially deaf and blind from humble parents, who nevertheless struggled so their son could have a good education (and sort of taught him not to surrender)... Does it sound familiar? José Angel was also bullied by some of his classmates, who put chalk in his perkins Braille machine because "they were annoyed by the noise", which again sounds sort of familiar, too.

José Angel lives on his own independently, and one day he thought odd that he couldn't vote secretly, or have inevitablytrust somebody to choose the right ballot for him. So he campaigned for teh availability of Braille ballots so blind people could exercise the Constitutional right to the secret vote, as much as sighted people

Seems interesting. Do you have a translation?

No, but I could work one (I hope I can do it in a few days)

Google translator gives a very, very rough translation, so I'd have to polish it a bit.

This was posted while I was away for the weekend, and I forgot to respond, but thanks for posting this Gloria! Really interesting story and a good thing for Spain to be doing. I don't think they have this in most countries (they don't in Sweden at least), but it really should be available in more places. With the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (one of the few good things to happen during Bush Sr's term as president), I'm surprised they don't have Braille ballots in the U.S. either (or do they?) since this sounds like something that would be covered by that law.

Speaking of blind lawyers, did you know that there are around 1,000 blind lawyers in the U.S. alone? On another note, I'm pretty sure they all have computers... Okay, I'm going to stop complaining about Matt not having a computer now, it's just that with the amount of realism Bru and Lark are bringing to the book, that's soon becoming the least realistic aspect of it. Okay, not really, but you know what I mean. Wink
