Very good issue, very tense and mysterious... the whole issue felt really well-done (what I've come to expect!) and Ben smacking Matt around came out of nowhere. Solid issue. _________________ Middle Class Fabulous |

A good issue. The mystery deepens. Like the protagonists, we're left with as many questions as we had before.
Between lines, Ben Donovan speaks about saving someone "he cares about" in his dialogue with Matt. Is this the reason why he's willing to be be executed, or even the reason why attempts suicide (probably to avoid that the interference of Matt and Dakota may save him at the last minute)? Is the person who is behind this threatening someone he cares about?
And who is this person, or this group of persons? The federals are involved, but apparently also the underworld, as shown with the reappearence of Mr Slaughter.
I must say that I wasn't particularly thrilled with Daredevil beating up lowlifes in the bar. The situation of "DD beating up lowlifes", with included sequence of small panels, is in fact getting a little repetitive.
Also, when I saw the henchman informing the "mystery man standing by a window", near the end of the issue, I really said to myself "No! Please, not another Machiavellian mastermind villain who controls everything and is manipulating everyone including DD!". Because, that's basically what we have had for the entire duration of Brubaker's run.
Thank god he was just Mr Slaughter (I was never much impressed by this character. Let's face it, he's always been a minor comprimary).
What instead I really, really appreciated was the fact that Matt is shown to be completely back in action. He is now completely focused in the case, as shown by the fact that he's not wasting any time, already contacting Ben Urich, searching for informations and more eager than ever to find the real culprit.

I'm really liking how Dakota is being brought to the forefront in this arc... (and if you don't know who "Mr. North" is, he's Samuel J. North, and he runs a secret intelligence agency, if I remember the old Dakota North stories correctly)
If you've ever watched The Wire, I kept on thinking this arc could have been a storyline there (since Season 2 concentrated on dock workers).
Anyway, I felt this issue was one of the strongest in a while. _________________ Kuljit Mithra

Thanks for that info, I was just wondering about that. I really liked this issue too, and one thing that amazed me was that they managed to cram in so much stuff without any of the developments feeling rushed at all. Now, of course, the big question is how the federal government, Dakota's dad, Mr Slaughter, Ben Donovan and the mysterious missing dad are all connected. I still don't have a clue. _________________ The Other Murdock Papers |

Dakota's papa used to go around in wheelchair. It seems he's recovered for now he does fine with just a walking stick. _________________ Gloria
