|
|
There is a very large amount of... Confusion? About the radar sense's purpose and what it actually does.
I read that people liked the way the radar sense was portrayed in the Daredevil movie, however I thought it was horrid... First of all... it was portrayed in first person? Wha?
Second problem, if it worked the way it did, as a character he may as well have normal vision, as the radar sense in the movie was about as reliable as...?
From reading the comics, I always thought that his radar sense eminated from himself and pulsed outwards and was mostly (if not completely) unrelated to his hearing and other senses. I always assumed it sort of "pulsated" in a 360 radius around him and that way he could discern all the obstacles angles etc.
However that leads to the question of the pulse... This will sound really goofy, maybe its to much of a non serious thing to consider but the radar sense is one of the few powers in the MU that is actually difficult to understand?
His radar must have a pulse... And for that pulse to be fast enough to see things in real time, it must pulsate hella fast... Like 5-6 times a second? about 100X faster than a real radar?
Am I right in that assumption?
Anyways I guess it would be nearly impossible to portray that on film? |

Why does it need to have a pulse? It could be constant, like wifi or something. _________________ JC

constant?
I would guess that in every image with him using his radar, where you can see each circle around his head, I figured each circle was a pulse, that would make sense |

That's just a way to visually represent it. It isn't necessarily a scientifically coherent representation.
5-6 times a second? Sounds okay to me. They don't call them "superpowers" for nothing. |

Plus, it isn't always portrayed with the rings coming off his head. If I remember correctly, a couple times in Nocenti's run DD's "vision" was represented by a black and white topical map thingy without the rings (although there might have been rings).
In any case, 5-6 times a second is slow. If it was a pulse, it'd have to be way faster than that for DD to do what he does (if it was that slow a bullet could be fired and hit him between the "gaps"). _________________ JC

I think the "outlines" jc is talking about are just what Matt's mind "sees" or interprets as the radar waves are reflected back to him. I think it's safe to say that Matt's radar go out in pulses, but there has never been any mention of blind gaps when concentrating on the radar. The only time his radar is interupted is when other sensory imput gets too overwhelming, and its more accurate to say that Matt's concentation is interruped, rather than the radar being interrupted. _________________ rgj |
