I have always considered myself a "Marvel" Girl. I can't even tell you how many times I have gotten into the Marvel vs. DC discussion with my friends. Recently though, I have found myself dumping more and more Marvel titles and adding more DC. I don't know if it is a matter of Marvel being that bad right now or DC being that good. Though, the DC being that good does seem to be the real reason. It just seems that at the moment, DC has more writers I really want to follow (i.e. Johns, Meltzer, Simone, and Winick).
Anyone else going to the dark side with me? |

In recent months I have added Geoff Johns' Green Lantern and the accompanying GL: Corps titles to my pull list. I'll be adding Blackest Night as well - although I'm not sure just how much of Blackest Night I'm willing to get sucked into (probably main story plus the GL books, don't think I need all of the off shoots).
I try pretty hard to limit the number of books I actually have on my pull list (otherwise I'd completely kill my budget every month) but these are the first DC titles I've picked up with any regularity. A couple of my friends have started picking up multiple DC titles (they tend to be the books written by Johns) and I've been able to mooch off of them to 'get my fix'.
If I had the budget I'd probably start picking up more DC books than just the Green Lantern stuff. I'm not sure that I'll follow GL past Johns' run though. I guess time will tell! _________________ https://twitter.com/tburnham7

I know a lot of people pick one camp or the other. There have been times in my life when I bought only DC and not Marvel and the other way around and there is always something missing. I find for myself that a balance of the two makes me happy, in the same way I need a Superman or Thor fix as well as a Conan or Punisher.
By the way, John's Green Lantern run is phenomenal. I already get the main GL title and for Blackest Night I am just adding the mini series of that name and not all of the other tie ins. His Flash Rebirth is off to a fantastic start too! Although I will miss Wally being the main Flash. _________________ "One must think like a hero to merely behave like a decent human being." |

I noted early on that DC comic books were a bit more adult oriented content wise. Marvel on the other hand for years was just the opposite. I like characters from both camps myself but there have been times when I asked myself... "why am I even reading this, it's so childish and immature" referring to some older Marvel titles I read (way back when). That's one of the main reasons Daredevil appeals to me because of the adult themes and noir atmosphere (thanks to Miller). Granted you've got titles like the Punisher and Wolverine but there are far more "Apple Pie" heroes to be found like Captain America and Spider-Man. Rarely back then could you find characters like that appearing in Dark Stories (Fearful Symmetry comes to mind) as opposed to it being quite prevalent in DC titles particularly Batman.

I think the difference is basically Secret Invasion vs. Final Crisis. Secret Invasion is a thinly veiled BSG rip off where aliens come to earth to fight heroes. Final Crisis is similar because it's an "alien" invasion. Only this time the aliens are actually gods and they're not really coming to fight as much as they are to end all existence by dragging it down into a hyper gravity well that bends space and time. They're also using an anti-life equasion that proves that evil wins. They also shoot bullets BACKWARDS THROUGH TIME. Or something.
DC is the more mature line. I don't know why Marvel even bothers. _________________ JC

I just started watching BSG and about halfway through the mini-series I had this exact same thought. _________________ https://twitter.com/tburnham7
