Here are two reviews of tomorrow's Daredevil: Noir #1, by me and Alex Rodriguez: http://www.comicsbulletin.com/reviews/123912832559251.htm
Looking forward to hearing people's thoughts on this - it's definitely my favourite book of the "noir" line so far. DD suits the imprint very well. |

Oh. Hell. Yeah. I love the art in this. The rewrite of the relationship of Matt and Foggy makes perfect sense in this context. I feel the way Matt was blinded is a little vague, but of course, it couldn't have been radioactive waste in the twenties. (It had crossed my mind that they might have made him drink some bad grain alcohol. That would do the trick.)
I'm ready for the next one! Did I mention I love the art? _________________ Alice

That's a great explanation!
I'm more interested to see how/if his powers are explained.
And yeah, the art is very good, isn't it? I could happily see Coker take over the main DD book. |

I could really enjoy Coker doing the main title. Spot on. _________________ Alice

I would really like to see what Coker would do on the main title too. This is a fantastic issue.
The guy at my local comic shop said he is really enjoying Marvel's Noir comics, but this is the only one I've checked out so far. He said a customer of his didn't understand why they would do Daredevil Noir, because Daredevil is noir already. I can kind of understand that comment, but now having read the book, I feel the main title could stand to be infused with some more of the noir elements found in this book.
I know that Andy Diggle is coming on to the book, and I know that Daredevil Noir is only one issue old, but I am now curious to see what Alexander Irvine would do if he had the chance to write the main series. |

I actually like Coker's art, however I did not pick up DD noir. If he gets a chance to do the main book I would not mind at all. I don't even believe marvel has mentioned whether or not Lark is staying with the book after Brubaker leaves. Currently it seems like they're trying azaceta out though. |

It's actually been confirmed that Lark is leaving too. I didn't hear about Azaceta though. If that's true, I'm not thrilled about that choice, because I didn't really feel his art suited the book on the one fill-in issue he did. Coker would be great, and Aja would be too. |

omfg? LARK IS LEAVING ALSO? Oh, I was just speculating since Azaceta was actually on almost the whole without fear arc if you remember, and I figured that maybe he was on the book so they could see what he could do. I think his work was very minimal though since Lark's work was more dominant. Like you said though, the stand alone that Azaceta did didn't really suit his art. His art better suits stuff like b.p.r.d. like he did with the 1946 story. OMG AJA! *Screams* I love your taste sir. I was so distraught when he left Iron Fist x.x |

I find something about the final page of this issue pretty funny. I'm assuming that this is Times Square. One thing sticks out in the advertising to me.
This is supposed to be Prohibition Era NYC, right? Prohibition ended in 1933. Why would Admiral be advertising televisions? Yes, I know that technically, there were broadcast TV signals floating around, but they were not commercial television. Not even in NY. Radio? I could buy that.
Other than this, which might just be there to see if anyone is paying attention (like that PepperCola sign, which is an awesome mashup of Dr Pepper and Pepsi Cola), the art is just fantastic. I suppose I just noticed it because I've been ogling the art so closely.
Great job, Mr. Coker! _________________ Alice

Great interview Kuljit. Some really in-depth discussion of Irvine's approach to writing the issue, and Coker's artistic methods. Very interesting and informative.
And I loved this part: Quote: | Irvine: Some of these communications were funny. We were talking about a big fight scene in issue 1, and I was explaining what I had been trying to do in the script, and there comes this long pause... after which Tomm says, "Sometimes people just write 'They fight.'" | |
