It's always interesting to see what other fans have been reading, especially when they stir up your interest in reading Daredevil back issues.

I'll start. I just read Daredevil volume 2, issue 116. It's the prelude to the Return of the King arc. It was written by Ed Brubaker, and drawn by David Aja.

This is an issue I really love. It shines the spotlight on Kingpin, a horrible human being who has been portrayed as an irredeemable, evil human being. And yet after reading the issue, you can't help but feel just a little bit sorry for him. (And of course I felt horrible for Marta and her two children...)

There are lots of little touches that make this issue stand out for me. There's the homage to Kingpin's deceased wife, Vanessa. There is the explanation of the place in Spain where the Kingpin is staying. There's the Kingpin's cute apology to Marta for not voting. There is the incident in the bar where the Kingpin nearly kills a man who insults Marta. There's Marta's gentle swipe about the Kingpin's appetite. There are Marta's kids endearing way they call Willie, "Wheelie." There's the game of rhino that Kingpin and the kids play. And then there's the scene where Kingpin finds Marta and the children slaughtered by the Hand and Lady Bullseye.

The artwork is beautiful. Much of it follows the outstanding style of Alex Maleev and Michael Lark, and there is the one page that is done in the style of Steranko.

I find myself thinking about the comic book often. It was great to spend a few minutes re-reading the book one more time.

OK, so what have you been reading?

I agree, this is a fantastic issue, one of Brubaker's best.

Here's my review from when it originally came out: http://www.comicsbulletin.com/reviews/123608760382009.htm
