Back when comics were sold mostly on the newsstands, publishers put the date months ahead so it would stay on the racks longer. It basically served as an expiry date... so if you shipped it in July and put a September date on it, the store would know to remove the comic in September.

Now most comics are shipped directly to comic stores, so it doesn't really apply, but I guess they keep it for consistency with what has come before.

This is sort of related to the question above, but I was looking into subscribing to Daredevil so I can get the issues in the mail. But Marvel doesn't seem to have an option to subscribe. Is this usual or does anyone know what is going on? Thanks, Gdog

When BLACK PANTHER took over DD's numbering, subscribers were given the choice of keeping PANTHER or not. I guess Marvel hasn't started up the DAREDEVIL one back up again with the new series... yet?

I used to have a direct subscription through Marvel. There were a few problems, though. When I originally subscribed, my first issue didn't arrive for months. I assumed, for new subscribers, they would just send the very next issue as it became available, but that was not the case.

Plus, my issues never arrived timely. If Darerdevil #2 was scheduled to hit shelves on 8-17, I may not have gotten it until a week or two later; sometimes even later than that. There were times I wondered if a particular issue may have been lost in the mail.

I contacted Marvel directly, and they simply directed me toward their FAQ section on their website. Basically, it tells you that if you have a direct subscription, expect delays.

If you are nowhere near a place that sells the title, of course, you should get a subscription. If you cane avoid it, however, you should.

I second that. With a Marvel direct subscription, issues typically don't arrive until about 2 weeks AFTER the release date. If you want to read the issues close to release date, buy them at your local comic shop.

Plus, as Kuljit said, they're not currently offering direct subscription for DD right now so it's not an option.

Ah, that also explains why although I subscribed to the XMEN about 8 weeks ago, I still haven't seen an issue in the mail. They were awfully quick to cash my check though.

I'm sticking with going to my local comic shop although they aren't that local.

Thanks for the info.
