Hi everybody, I just wanted to know what the best (or most vital) stories there are after Nocenti's run.

I was planning to pick up the Lone Stranger TPB, but what about after that? Fall from Grace? Fall of the Kingpin? Anything in between?

What I'm basically trying to do is to get onto volume 2. I only became a DD fan in the last couple of years and so far I have been reading alot of the stuff from Volume 1(Essential series, Miller/Janson, Denny O'Neil, Born Again, Nocenti, etc...)

Now im quite eager to get onto volume 2, but was wondering if there are any must-read story arcs during volume 1 besides the ones I've mentioned. Thanks in advance:)

Fall Of The Kingpin is one of my favorite DD arcs, highly recommend that one. Never seen a TPB for that one, though I understand one exists. Single issues are readily available. Definitely pick that arc up. The issues leading up to it are pretty good too.

I recently read Fall From Grace and found it MUCH better than most people give it credit for. Still quite flawed but miles above Shadowland in my opinion. Kuljit has some great interviews with the creators posted here that help clear up a few problems too, so I recommend reading those sometime too. Also, pick up the TPB. It has some extra pages that aren't in the single issues that help with make the story clearer. I managed to pick up the TPB in very good condition on Ebay for $5 so it's possible to find it cheap. I also recommend reading Elektra: Assassin before Fall From Grace as it contimues some threads from that story.

I also understand Chichester has a few good single issues, like #304 that might be worth checking out.

Haven't read any of the Joe Kelly or Karl Kesel issues yet but I plan on checking those out.

Surprisingly little of much value beyond Nocenti's run IMO.

Chichester got off to a great start but then lost it completely, but issues #292 -300, and #304 are all good. Kesel had a fine (short) run with much in common with the look and feel of Waids first new issue, and is worth checking out. I think it starts around #353?

Chichester produced a fine final issue for Vol 1 (#380).

I don't think much of the above is available in Trades.

thanks for the help dudes

going on what you have both said, I'll defenitely try and read Fall of the Kingpin. I'll also check out the Fall from Grace interviews you mentioned AP.

I'm now wondering whether I should even read Lone Stranger. Hmmmm? DD vs demons...could be fun actually.

I read Nocenti's stuff hoping it would be good. Never cared for it. Turns out, Shadowland isn't the first time DD was made a puppet to someone else's will.

The only good thing about her run was Romita Jr and Al Williamson's art. Damn shame they got paired up with her.

Joe Kelly's run on Daredevil is vastly underrated. A little digging and you should be able to find Fall of the Kingpin in trade format somewhere.

@AP, I myself like Nocenti's work (well, what I've read so far), and yeah, the art is very nice.

@RGdesigner I've been looking for the tbp but its pretty damn expensive. Think I'll end up buying the single issues.

I've heard that Fall of the Kingpin is considered a sequel of sorts to Born Again. If so, why? (Haven't read it...yet Wink )

After Nocenti, I suppose Chichester started off okay. You can find 297-300 at a reasonable price in a back-issue bin, and pretty easily. It's worth reading just to see Daredevil finally bring the Kingpin to justice, although it's the most Miller-derivitive Daredevil work since Miller's run, and that's saying something. You have to read Born Again to appreciate it.

Chichester's work was garbage after that. I didn't like Fall From Grace, and Tree of Knowledge is trash. I still don't know what it's about.

J.M. DeMatteis was brought in to clean up the book. I really enjoy him as a writer, and I thought he did some great work on Daredevil, although I seem to be in the minority here. His run, while short, hasn't been collected in trade, but it's not hard to find in back-issue bins.

Karl Kessel's run was a lot of fun. He created some villains that had a lot of potential, and brought a lot of Marvel villains to Daredevil for the first time. I wasn't crazy about Cary Nord's art, but Gene Colan made a return around this time.

Joe Kelly continued Kessel's tone, but haven't read too much of his run. Mysterio appeared during his run, preceding Kevin Smith's Guardian Devil which launched Volume 2, which is when I picked up the book again.

Yeah, I give DeMatteis a lot of credit for turning things around on this title. As far as I'm concerned, after the depths the title had plunged into, he resuced it and administered the kiss of life!

I did like Nord's art with the Kesel run though. The look and feel of the title is not a million miles away from what Waid and co are attempting now.

Didn't think much of Joe Kelly, as I thought he lost his way very quickly on this title after one or two good issues (which I think might have been plotted by Kesel anyway before he left?). The only good thing around this period of the book IMO was the occassional Gene Colan artwork.

Thanks to all of you, very much appreciated. Sounds like Volume 1 still has alot to offer. I think I may just skip Lone Stranger, and check out Fall of the Kinpin.

Speaking of Nocenti, one of the big pieces of news from this year's NYCC was that she has returned to comics!

She'll be writing Green Arrow for DC

Wow. Anyone any idea when Green Arrow #7 is due out in 2012?

I've never thought that much of this character but if this lady is writing it I'll be checking it out.

That's great news. I've never been that large a fan of Ollie, but I'd read her work of him.
