This is the end of Waid's best arc so far, and who knew you'd get some great character moments with Hank Pym in a Daredevil book?
The ending suggests we may have seen the end of Matt's "brighter" days for a while. I'm really curious to see where the next issue takes us.
Samnee is proving to be a good fit for the book, being able to handle the grittier moments, and balance it with some more cartoony work. He's following Rivera's model for the radar nicely. |

After over year of hoping for darkness, it's here and I still don't like it. Diggle was dark too, and even worse. I'll concede the Matt/Hank mind meld was interesting, especially with two characters who I don't remember ever having more than a cursory meeting. But I can't accept Hank walking out of Matt's ear. And while the art reached a higher level last month, this time it looks like it was drawn with magic markers. As for what was in Matt's drawer... yes, I was surprised. I never would have imagined anything so preposterous. I don't know where Waid is going with this. It sounds like another "what villain is trying to drive Matt insane" story, but I won't underestimate Waid's sense of the absurd. I just wish he would only apply it to inherently absurd characters like Ant-Man and not DD. Though to each his own, and I know many fans and the Eisner committee disagree.
Next issue looks like the very definition of "filler", so I think I can hold off on that. I'll check again afterwards, but I'm mostly resigned that I'll never relate to Waid on this book. |

I would never think that Matt and Hank would have that much in common, but thanks to Waid, it makes sense now.
If Matt is the most tragic figure in the MU, then Hank is the most mentally disturbed. Suffering multiple mental breakdowns over the years highlighted by ever-changing hero identities, both characters have suffered through their own trials, even losing the loves of the lives. Kudos to Waid for his skillful way of showcasing this hidden connection.
As for Foggy's reveal to Matt, that is quite extreme, a terrible sign to discover about anyone, but it seems to confirm Foggy's fears and doubts all along. It may seem like a typical villain-framing-the-hero deal but I don't think it's going to be that simple with Waid at the helm.
Who put it there? Is Matt responsible? Is Matt cracking again? The creative team has done a great job in building up this drama so can't wait to see how Matt handles this latest turn of events. |

This was a solid issue by Waid and Samnee, and the highlight for me was Foggy's showdown with Matt, that has been building up for a long time!
It will be interesting to see where this book travels from here on in, but next issue promises to be dynamite, with superstar artist MIKE ALLRED handling the art - if only it could be on a permanent basis as Samnee is just okay. |

Oh and we should probably give a congratulatory clap to Gee for being the first (as far as I know) on these boards to correctly deduce what was found in Matt's drawer.
For the issue itself, these aren't the type of DD stories I really enjoy but as long as Waid keeps doing something interesting with the characters I'll keep reading them. It was a nice little story highlighting that these characters have emotions and aren't just moving from one action scene to another. |
