"The Ones We Leave Behind"
-Karen has a history
-Atlas sign across the hall
-lots of cool parkour here
-That sign on the heroin looks like Iron Fist's symbol don't it?
-Mahoney comes into play
-sad to see Urich die _________________ Kuljit Mithra

Seriously?
The killing of Urich was for the comic book fans. It's a "they'll never see it coming." Because if you are watching Daredevil without ever being a comic book fan, you really would care less about Ben's death, and truth be told, it was very predictable that he would die. But, the comic book fan would "never see it coming" is what the "clever" writers were thinking (truth be told, there's always that line black comedians talk about "the brother in the horror movie is the first to die."). Let's just say, I wasn't surprised at all at Ben's death.
Obviously, the show is still great. And, the costume, no doubt, is in the finale (maybe at the end), but I seriously think they could have done more with the Ben character. The writes did a disservice to Ben. It's like killing Alfred in Batman. For no real reason other then to say, "Ha! Gotcha DD comic book fans!" Oh, well, life goes on.
Very good series so far, it's no Game of Thrones or Walking Dead, but its very good.
BTW, I actually yelled out loud with joy to see the parkour. That's Daredevil! Now, all we need is the billy clubs with rope for swinging. _________________ rgj |

There were a lot of good moments in this, pieces that fit together, moments of sadness of things hitting rock bottom. But really it's the end that anyone will remember. I figured there wasn't going to be any wiggling out of it, but it was still shocking. Considering earlier about the people who intentionally blinded themselves to work in a heroin factory, the episode was a downer all around. But damn was it a great episode.

The leaping over the rooftops was the first time I saw Matt move the way Daredevil should. I loved it.
Otherwise, this episode felt a smidge weaker than the others. Did Karen really dream that she woke up from a dream? And I really didn't need to hear Charlie Cox say, "I'm not the bad guy." We don't need winky moments in this show.
And why the hell would Gao and Leland poison so many people at the benefit when the only person they wanted to take out was Vanessa? It's kind of an indiscriminate way to kill one person. It still looks like foul play. If you wanted to kill one person, wouldn't you want to make it look like an accident, not a murder? The poison at the benefit doesn't make any logical sense.
Oh well. There was still a lot to enjoy. One episode left. |

Maybe I'm a jaded comic fan, but I suspect Urich may not be dead.
He 'died' at least twice during Miller's run. It would have made sense for him to have faked his death, run off to witness protection to recover, with the added benefit of his wife not being pulled into the fray. The line from Mrs. Urich about "He's still taking care of me" triggered this brainfart.
Even if that isn't the case, I thought this episode was fantastic. I love that Kingpin is interjecting personally. I also love re-watching, catching all the foreshadowing to Urich's death. The line from episode 8, when Daredevil says something to the effect of "I don't want to gamble with peoples' lives" to which Ben responds "Now you're gambling with mine" is a superb bit of writing.
This show is really, really good. |

Ben Urich was great. I was sad to see him go but it occured to me that this show isn't going to run eight seasons. I predict two or three tops. Hopefully more, of course but it depends on Marvel's plan. Hopefully the success doesn't lead to them putting Daredevil exclusively in films and especially not an Avenger. The 13 hour movie was perfect for DD.
Ben Urich's last scene and death was the most heroic moment in the show. He didn't bat an eyelid at a person who is universally feared, for good reason, by all the cast members. No one understands crime and how big Fisk's version is more than Ben and he didn't bat an eye lid when he announced himself.
I'm not sure if it was this episode that it was mentioned again but does anyone think Karen has already been addicted to heroin and she'll be relapsing when/if they do their version of Born Again?
I'd still rather have had Ben stick around. |

I just watched this episode and had to come here to mention how much I loved the rooftop scene in plain clothes too. I know everyone has raved about the fight scene from the end of episode 2, but for me this was the best action sequence that the show has done so far, in that it just felt so perfectly Daredevil.
Fisk's appearance at the end was great too - shades of the 'getting his hands dirty' Fisk from Bendis' run.
Gutted about Urich though - it feels like a waste of a character who had so much potential. |

They weren't trying to make it look like it wasn't foul play. They were trying to make it look like a botched attempt on Fisk's life, because they needed for Fisk to flip the switch and go into Beast Mode to "clean up shop". Leland explains this at least once. |

They also didn't want it to look like they were targeting Vanessa. That would be suspicious since they were the ones who had a problem with her. _________________ Matt Murdock's cooler twin brother
